RE: Marshall Def. Chief to Memphis?

Get real, you wasn't going to win anything when your admin decided to move from IAA to CUSA. And the only way you start to win anything in the future is if you move up the rankings in recruiting.
UTSA got lucky for a year and ODU had a few years of success because of Taylor Heinicke. Take a look at where they ended up this year.
Just because you start a football team at a school that might be in a talent rich area doesn't mean success at the FBS level. That's the reason I said that if you start a program or restart a program that it should be a requirement for anyone to stay IAA for at least 10 years, That gives you time to get everything worked out and facilities built up.
It was a poster from Marshall I think either Thunders or banker who said that Charlotte would be lucky to win 15-17 games in their 1st 5 years of CUSA. With this years 5 wins you are actually in striking distance of that. You set at 12 wins.
Lambert, Judy Rose or the mayor of Charlotte wasn't the problem. You didn't have and still don't have a IA stadium. Seriously if I was a decent recruit I doubt that I would even look at Charlotte as a serious place to play if I had other offers. Other than location this is one of the biggest reason Idaho is back in the Big Sky, the Kibbie Dome was a huge albatross around their neck. Atleast at Charlotte they can expand.

This vacancy could be Hamrick's chance to hire Head coach "in waiting" Doc has two years left on contract, I'd like to think he'll "retire" at the end of his contract.

MU fans are looking at Brad Lambert. I think he would be a good hire.
Lambert would be a slam dunk hire. Look at what he was able to do with Charlotte's D this past year. That was the best thing about that team
Lambert looks like the type of coach who would be a fantastic coordinator.
If Lambert were hired and builds a solid defense, I wouldn't mind seeing him take over for Doc in two years.

I just don't see him as a defensive guru. Our defense was bad until we brought in a new DC this year and switched from the 3-4 to the 4-3. It took 3 DC's before our defense was anything more than bad and Wake was ranked 121st in defense the year before we hired him. Could just be coincidence, but I give Glenn Spencer the credit since the turnaround was pretty remarkable under his watch after being pretty bad prior.

So you're saying we should hire Glenn Spencer as the next Marshall DC...

FAU already hired him for that job. Some Charlotte fans wouldn't have been unhappy if he had gotten the HC job. He wasn't my preference, but I was impressed with his job with our defense this season.

If Doc retires in 2 years (he would only be 63) the name I would like to hear circulated was just let go by Manny Diaz today. And that is Marshall's former TE coach Todd Hartley. He has never been HC but he always struck me as one that just knows how to lead.
