23-3 at half.
They got a close win over a vastly overrated Michigan squad. USC stunk it up in the PAC this year and Stanford wasn't that much better. Then they picked up a close win over the SEC's Vanderbilt who fumbled the winning score through the end zone. They beat Northwestern, Wake Forest, and Navy. Their schedule had F.S.U. been up to snuff would have been fine as that would have normally been a second contending school which would finished ranked.
So I don't blame them. But when Stanford, U.S.C., and F.S.U. are subpar there goes your schedule.
So, did this team really have that strong of a schedule in retrospect?
Kudos to them for being 12-0 but in retrospect their best win will likely be over Michigan who will likely finish somewhere between 12th & 15th.
Right now I'd say that either Georgia or Ohio State were probably more deserving. I would have stated that publicly before the selection but knew it would not be believed until the actual game proved it so.
Their issue is that with their independent schedule if a couple of key schools go flat so does their schedule. A complete conference schedule ameliorates that because usually you will play two strong teams at least, the leading contender in your division, and your opponent in the CCG.
