"Marshall defensive coordinator Adam Fuller is expected to be named head coach Mike Norvell's defensive coordinator, according to multiple sources.

Fuller spent the past six seasons at Marshall, where he's been linebackers coach, safeties coach, assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. The Thundering Herd did not allow a 100-plus yard rusher in 2018.

The hire would mean the Tigers have replaced Chris Ball with one of the hottest young defensive names in the country. Memphis may have the most defensive talent they've had under Norvell in 2019."

Marshall is in the top 20 in the following categories: rushing yards per game, sacks per game, tackles for loss per game, total defense, opponents third-down conversion percentage and scoring defense.

For Fuller, success is measured by all 11 players on the defense looking to achieve the same goal: stop the football.

That is achieved through disguising looks and players buying in during film study to fully understand what the concepts are that Fuller and his staff want to accomplish each week.

“Our guys have to study, they have to be prepared, they have to make the tackle when they are free,” Fuller said. “Our job is to make sure that when the offense snaps the ball, they don’t know who is free. That’s what we keep trying to do a good job of, and it comes with preparation and practice.”

This says Marshall runs a 4-3. Will we switch? Do we have the proper personnel to run the 4-3?

This hire speaks to the university’s commitment to Norvell and the program. Marshall was once a peer... a conference mate... so we had to offer a significantly better offer and opportunity to land him.

Not the greatest of sample sizes there.

It’s a great hire. Fuller is a very thorough coach. He is anal in a good way and leaves no rocks unturned. Fuller is very “Belichickian” in his approach to coaching. He is a native New Englander and has friends on the Patriots staff. He spends time at their training camp most years and brings that “Patriot Way” to his coaching philosophy. This is a big loss for Marshall.

And we gave up 35 to South Alabama, 40 to Tulane and 41 to friggin' East Carolina...not to mention 65 to Missouri.

Actually I stand corrected, they gave up 41. Point being the only good competition they faced outside of Conference USA kind of exposed the defense. NC State also clobbered them. But anything should be an upgrade over what we just had.

We now see the upside to losing coaches to other schools. We select the best of the up and comers.

I like what I have read so far. We need a shot in the arm on the defensive side. I hope that Adam Fuller is it.
