Before bowls:
Tulane fired their OC.
Temple lost their head coach.
Houston lost their star QB and DL.
Memphis lost their OC, DC, and star RB.
USF was never good, but ate enough cupcakes to get to 6 wins.

UCF will likely get slaughtered without Milton, but might have been a favorite with him.
Cincy is the only fully intact team (I think?).

It is the same story every year at this time. The American romps during the regular season (this was a down year for that even) and gets decimated before the bowls (although this year injuries played a bigger part). No G4 league has to deal with upward mobile coaches, coordinators, and players like the American has in its existence. The American has a terrible bowl record, but I think you will find that teams that don't have to deal with the above have a much better record during the bowl season.

Did you want cheese with that whine? P6 my derrière.

I understand being in the MW you wouldn't understand what the above does to a team.

MWC has lost coaches to P5 progams. Players to injuries, etc. Need some cheese with that Whine?

They have literally lost 2 coaches total since the AAC formed. The AAC has lost 7. The AAC is 2-7 in bowl games since 2014 where coaches or players left before bowl games. The AAC is 6-6 in bowl games where no one left or sat since 2015. Obviously not great, but it 100% makes a difference.

This year none really. Previous years there have been quite a few though.

So the AAC wasn't very good this year, so that is the biggest reasoning behind the 1-4 bowl record - not the reasons listed.

No it still applies. Memphis didn't play anyone in OOC so obviously no good wins. They also lost their OC, DC, Associate coach/TE, LB coach, and star RB before the bowl game. Not hard to see how those 5 might have changed the outcome of a close game.

Wake Forest was missing their starting QB and all-American WR. They were the most injury ravaged ACC team this year and yet still passed and ran all over Memphis.

Memphis just did what it usually does, lose when it is not at home.

He was their starter for the final 4 games. Not exactly difficult to shred a Memphis defense who sucked all year then lost its already terrible DC. Memphis wins 9 out 10 at regular season strength despite having a non-existent defense.
