To me the brewery would be a great idea. It would be a great place to go pre and post football games. It could have some sort of huskie name or theme to it. The college kids would enjoy it and who doesn’t like fresh beer? Look at Chicago.....there’s over 100 in the area and most in the nation. If that many can survive there then one in Dekalb would thrive. Wouldn’t be much competition in Dekalb area.

Already a brewery in DeKalb. “The Forge”. It is on 6th st. Just north of the tracks. Also located in Sycamore, but the beer is brewed in DeKalb. And just south of town, on Keslinger Rd, is Whiskey Acres, a distillery with a tasting room

Red Hawk Bar and Grill

Falken Tires
Rocket Mortgage
Bronco Packaging
Eagle Foods
Cardinal Liquors
Chippewa Boots
Zipz Ice Cream

Although I did hear a rumor that this bar was looking to expand, thought that corner might have some nostalgia for them....

I don’t think the lot is large enough for any of those ideas. Not enough parking under current codes I think.

The next time someone drives into DeKalb from the airport, could you snap some pics as a recruit would see the city and campus the first time and post them here?

A first impression of your possible home for the next five years probably has a significant impact on some recruits who have multiple options.

I'm curious as to how charming/dumpy the city looks as you enter it.

Need a large NIU sign off 88. And a sign on Annie glidden saying something like “now entering huskie country” just anything to get some school pride going.

I was wondering if the main entrance road has run-down houses with washing machines on the lawns and cars up on jacks, abandoned commercial sites or otherwise makes DeKalb look like Hooterville as you enter it. Or it might be very nice. I'm just curious.

I really hope DeKalb doesn’t drop the ball on this one.

How has that not been bulldozed yet? That’s quite an eyesore. If you knock it down you will eradicate the AIDS virus from Dekalb.

If I were NIU or DeKalb I would nix any ideas for a liquor store or bar there. That is a prime location, no need to trash it up with something else alcohol related so people can see stumbling drunks or alcoholics coming out of there. NIU should buy it and put a green area there with some very nice landscaping, sculpture, NIU signage. That area of Lincoln Hwy needs an image upgrade anyway. It already looks decrepit enough. Let BWW or a bank develop where that nasty motel sits.
