Looks like Comcast/NBC will launch a streaming service
From Awful Announcing:
Comcast exec hints that NBCUniversal streaming service could be coming in 2019
No word on whether the service would include any sports packages, but technically NBC Sports Gold already exists even though I can't imagine they're doing great with the way they've structured it. NBC primarily owns a lot of niche pro leagues' rights.
But I think it's interesting nonetheless that another major media company could be getting into this game. I think that's especially true being that ESPN+ has apparently worked out fairly well. There aren't a lot of college properties on NBC except for Notre Dame, but would this sort of platform help them buy rights packages to leagues both pro and college?
What if Comcast skips the middle man and just buys Netflix? They already have a partnership of sorts. Imagine the Netflix library with NBC library and sports added. Makes sense to me. I think Netflix could have some problems if every media company comes out with their own streaming service and that's what it looks like is happening.

Comcast lacks the funds to buy Netflix right now. But it will be interesting to see what happens to its valuation once Disney pulls everything they own from Netflix's library.

From a soccer perspective, NBC Sports Gold is only a requirement if you are a sports fan of a non-top six EPL club or don’t have DVR capabilities. I’m not sure about the other properties on that service.
