Quick Lane Bowl: Minnesota vs Georgia Tech
Well, with the cancellation of the SERVPRO Bowl, it's on to the next one. Minnesota and GT drew the shortest of all sticks in being stuck in Detroit for a bowl game. I mean, can anything owned by the Detroit Lions be any good?
Well, hopefully the game is. MC #44 GT brings its wishbone attack up north to face MC #57 Minnesota.
IIRC, this is the first P5 vs P5 bowl. Gotta start somewhere.

FWIW I think GT runs the flexbone, not the wishbone. Feel bad for Jacket fans, though I'd go to Detroit in a heartbeat if Miami got the bid there.

Holy Cow, Georgia Tech has an enormous punter. Dude looks like a defensive end.

Somehow that extra leg didn't help that first punt! They look totally lethargic. This could get ugly in a hurry. Hope not.

Minnesota looks to have much bigger offensive and defensive linemen than Georgia Tech. Size matters... on the line of scrimmage especially.

Games like this were the death of Paul Johnson's career. And they became more frequent over time.

Paul Johnson is in a special group as 3-time ACC COY.
When fan bases declare certain bowls aren’t worthy of their breath it often has a way of manifesting in the players.

I may have sour grapes but I'm not watching anymore ESPN bowl games after they did not reschedule the servepro bowl game. ESPN could have done something to still play the bowl.
I think this could have some ramifications for this next bowl cycle.

The most important take away from this game: No staff were retained. Thank God for that.

FWIW, I would rank Detroit the Big Ten's 2nd worst bowl location, with the Pinstripe Bowl in New York being the absolute worst.

I'd say Boise is worse, at least New York is New York and it's not that far from a couple of schools while most colleges have a decent alumni presence there. Boise is bad especially given the MAC tie-in unless you're name is Boise State. Detroit wouldn't be awful if they brought back the MAC, the matchups against the Big Ten were usually packed and close games.

Inept special teams. A porous defense. And no Nesbitt/Thomas walking through the door to make the offense so good it bails out everybody else.
