For two years in a row, the Dallas Bowl has distanced themselves C-USA. And, for the second year in a row, they have laid an egg. I don't feel bad for them. Dallas doesn't want to support this bowl anymore, and ESPN isn't doing anything to improve the bowl. Both are getting what they deserve. Maybe if C-USA was a major player in this bowl again, their fortunes would improve.

Well, hopefully the Myrtle Beach Bowl will fill in nicely, and I always thought that Charleston, SC would be a great place for a G5 bowl once the Citadel’s stadium renovations are completed. We could call it the Palmetto Bowl or something. I realize that doesn’t help the lack of a western bowl, but the problem is that nobody seems to want to sponsor one.

This bowl was started as a partnership between CUSA, the city of Dallas, and the Big 12. CUSA owned the majority of the game with the Big 12 owning a small share, and the city owned the stadium. Everybody except the Big 12 was making money. Fans were attending the game. The city and CUSA were quite happy. The Big 12 was not. They threatened to pull out of the game entirely if changes weren’t made. Rather than stand pat, McCleod bowed to their demands and sold the game to ESPN Events. ESPN changed the broadcast start time, struck the deal with the B1G, and started trading teams with other bowl games. The net result is that no CUSA team can start the season with playing there in mind, we rarely get a cartel opponent when we do, and the game no longer has any local following whatsoever. Our compensation for giving up the game was the capital and green light on the Bahamas Bowl. The only real positive to that game is the fact our event partner, Atlantis Resort, was willing to sweeten the pot by including us in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Just another example of why we desperately need a new conference commissioner.

Just be careful about asking for a lite ️
