The big question Saturday, when the MSU fight song starts up, will Monty join the rest of the student section when they get to the part "See their team is WEAKening" he may not be able to resist

The best part of this will be the film Monty has of a team( MSU) doing exactly what he preaches his team to do. Also running same plays and sharing the ball and getting out and running. Should be some good teaching to come from this game and game film.

Starting to think only thing Monty will teach them is that they should have worked harder to be better so they could have been a Spartan like him

Depending on how you translate things, this isn't exactly a quote that screams that he feels he made the correct decision.

Quote:“I just tell him, if you’re going to take another job, especially a head coaching job, just make sure all the the boxes are checked — good administration, good program, somewhere you can win, somewhere you can see your family being happy,” said Montgomery, who interviewed several places before the NIU offer. “Don’t just take a job to say you’re a head coach. People used to tell me and I just didn’t listen. Sometimes the job you have is a better job.”

I cannot believe the current coach of a program would say this. This is just incredible

This is typical of your posts. You are interpreting the quotes to fit your propaganda of anti-Monty stuff. That’s your opinion. You don’t know it was meant that way. The article is written as a slam to NIU basketball and the quotes are a spin for that narrative. I think Monty was honest about a lot of things in the article like losing players etc. I think losing Marin was the only one that really hurt. The rest were bad fits. I’ve always said that with Marin we win a lot more games that year and contend. Overall the article is a kick to the stomach but pretty much true. Program is better now than when Monty started but there more work to do.

I dont have an anti Monty agenda. I have been only one not criticizing him. These comments are over the top and unacceptable. No way to spin it otherwise

No. 1 -- God help all of us Huskie fans if the program didn't get better than when Monty started.
No. 2 -- You say Monty was honest about a lot of things like losing players and you add that some were a bad fit; it's not a matter of interpretation then to ask who recruited them? Why didn't they stay?
No. 3 -- How many MAC programs have changed coaches and had greater success in a shorter time? The answers to that question are examples of hires equal to the challenge.
No. 4 -- Monty is the Charlie Sadler of basketball.
Great resume, stepping-stone mentality, unrealistic thinking, and NIU will ultimately be better off after he's gone.

Monty is quoted “I don’t regret leaving”. 2019-20 is Monty’s last year under contract.

I don't like that quote but what upsets me more is him whining about the players transferring. He pushed some of them out and for good reason and could not convince others to stay and that is on him.
He turns around and says a mid major program is easier to fill with players. Well what happened?

I'm struggling to figure out where you're getting 'stepping-stone mentality' and 'unrealistic thinking' out of anything about Monty's tenure.

Disappointing? Failing to live up to what we perceived as some great potential in him and in some of his recruits? Sure...but don't get the others.

I thought it's a very fair article, although tough to read, but it's the truth. From everything I can tell, Monty's a good dude, however, maybe a better assistant coach then coach (still time to prove me wrong!). And the analysis of the transfers hurting most is spot on, he's gotten plenty of talent here, just couldn't keep them here and make them work together.

I didn't take it as whining...it's explaining what's went wrong and how he didn't expect that. And from everything we've seen, it seems correct? It's still on him, no doubt.

Even if it istrue, you NEVER admit you wish you would have stayed at previous employer. Maybe after your time is over, but not while coaching the team,

If someone says its wet out , you can imply it is precipitating. There could be other interpretations but the great odds are that it rained or snowed

Not trying to be an arse here, but I am genuinely sincerely scared Monty could show emotion for MSU on the sidelines tomorrow. I think its a real possibility. A subtle fist pump or casual low five, I fear it could happen.

You aren't that dumb. But, most here fall for your schtick and will probably fall for this one too. I'd rate you about a 7.5 out of 10 on the troll scale. Not bad, but this is a small and somewhat easily worked up crowd because the few that do frequent this site are pretty passionate about a team/school that is a perennial little brother.

Hmmm. I smell a secret extension from Sean "kick the can down the road" Frazier.
