ODU vs Herd
Seems like the herd only has two good players - Elmore and Burks. So is X going to get Elmore and Ahmad on Burks?

More than likely, yes.

My answer is, it doesn't matter.

The more important question is, how does that game affect the Herd's motivation vs ODU?

U. Va. is good, but Marshall is much better than what they've shown so far this season.

Our guys better had treat this as a big-time challenge or we could all be feeling pretty deflated going into the WKU game.

What makes you think they are much better than what they've shown?

Because this is the same team that went on a tear at the end of last season, minus (essentially) only Penava. That's admittedly a huge minus, but will our big men be able to exploit that mismatch? Yes, if it is the Carver and Ezipke of the Morgan State game, the pre-injury alpha Robinson or the properly focused Dickens show up. But if they don't (which has happened at times this season), and all we manage to do is make this a backcourt v. backcourt game, we could find ourselves scrambling to keep up.

I'm glad you're confidant. Count me as cautious. I happen to think that Caver/Green/Godwin/Stith are better than Elmore/Burks/Watson. And if two of our four big men show up, it should be a more comfortable game. But I also think that Marshall has the talent to put us in an early hole (like we were against VCU and Syracuse). One of these times this team, despite its grit, will not be able to dig itself out.

Channel 820 on Fios
Stadium Roku/Fire TV/iOS/Android app
Stadium Channel on PlutoTV
Stadium Channel on FuboTV
Stadium Channel on Twitch
Stadium Channel on xumo (looks like a PlutoTV clone)
Stream on WatchStadium.com
Stadium stream on Periscope apparently

All are free.

For the grief we give CUSA on media partnerships, Stadium is exceedingly accessible.

Im not saying Im confident (though I do think we are a better team). They were about a 115 type team last year befpre going on a run for a couple weeks and moving around 100. This year they are a little worse with the big loss pf Peneva and Burks/Elmore have yet to make big jumps from last year.

I think they are pretty much what they have been for a year and a half minus a hot 2 weeks.

I'm not gonna lie. The way Herd fans acted towards us in the offseason, I wouldn't be surprised if this game and the home return are their two biggest games of the year for them. They want to beat us so bad... hope we keep some internet bragging rights for another month or so

I would certainly expect ODU and Marshall in the same pod to have a 2nd game rematch, but we'd have to see the seeding to see if it'll be a home or away game.

RE: ODU vs Herd
Thursday 7:00 at the Ted: Marshall (7-6). Stadium TV

Results to date: Eastern Kentucky (105-77); Hofstra (76-72); Mt St Mary’s (98-75); NC A&T (95-71); Maryland (67-104); W&M (84-64); Ohio (84-101); Dusquesne (82-93); Toledo (74-75); Morehead St (76-84); Akron (75-74); Texas A&M (68-92); UVa 64-100).

Last game: UVa was hot (53.2% FG, 12-27 3s, 22-26 FT); Marshall was not (35.1% FG, 6-22 3s). Marshall was outrebounded 45-23 and had only 5 assists as UVa routed the Herd. Jon Elmore led the Herd with 14 pts (3-17 FG, 1-8 3s), CJ Burks had 11 and Rondale Watson 10.

Stats: 80.6 pts (vs 81.7); .440 FG (.341 3s); .672 FT; -8.4 RB; A/TO= 1.08

Starters (UVa)

G Rondale Watson (6-4 187 Sr). 21.4 min.; .444 FG (4-18 3s); .700 FT; 4.6 RB; 2.8 assists; 7.5 pts (6 starts)
G CJ Burks (6-4 185 Sr). 33.0 min.; .473 FG (23-71 3s); .727 FT; 3.7 RB; 1.9 steals; 17.5 pts
G Jon Elmore (6-3 187 Sr). 34.7 min.; .362 FG (38-108 3s); .746 FT; 4.3 RB; 4.8 assists; 1.7 steals; 19.2 pts

Bench
F Darius George (6-7 215 So). 18.9 min.; .479 FG (10-30 3s); .571 FT; 3.8 RB; 6.6 pts
G Taevion Kinsley (6-5 175 Fr). 17.2 min.; .648 FG (2-8 3s); .524 FT; 2.5 RB; 6.4 pts
F Mikel Beyers (6-9 215 So). 8.8 min.; .462 FG (3-9 3s); 2.1 RB; 2.9 pts
F Iran Bennet (6-9 350 Fr). 12.9 min.; .585 FG (0-2 3s); .375 FT; 2.7 RB; 4.5 pts (7 starts)

Team has failed to live up to pre-season expectations due to poor defense (opponents .464 FG, .358 3s) and rebounding. Elmore is scoring well despite shooting poorly. The Herd shoots 28 3s/game and 6-9 Williams hits .412. Their frantic pace will cause opponents to make mistakes (18.6 TOs/g).

What is does it meant that AJ Oliver was "added to the roster?" Just eligible to practice or play?

Not sure. It says he has 3 years eligibility and already RSed a year. I guess that means he is eligible to play. Not sure it is wise to play him yet if he is eligible. Needs to gel first and we really don't need another guard right now.

Practice. If he wins the appeal, he could play at the beginning of next year. Otherwise, he's not eligible to compete in games until the end of the first semester next year.

Would we get 3 full years with him able to play, only 2 because he already RSed, or is that an additional matter for appeal?

What ODUCoach posted is correct...If he is granted his appeal he will be eligible 3 full years starting next year at the beginning of the season. If not he will have 2.5 years eligibility starting his second semester next year. It is a big deal... If he is cleared to play at the beginning of next year he will be part of the rotation from the start... if he comes in the end of December it will be a lot more difficult.
