Marquette On-Campus Arena
https://www.jsonline.com/story/money/rea...280320002/

I did not realize that we were actually close to building an on-campus arena before committing to Fiserv Forum. With our lease there only seven years, we definitely have flexibility to - at some point - pursue an on-campus arena for our basketball programs. Article mentions that our leadership likes the model by Villanova and St. John's (playing many games on campus, but moving big games to NBA arena).

Other nice notes include our basketball programs raking in nearly 23 million last year (men's basketball was $19.3 million), with our athletic program taking-in $34.3 million of revenue (against $26.6 million of costs).

Personally, I think it is a matter of when - not if - Marquette decides to pursue an on-campus arena. We are building a ton of stuff on campus at the moment, so adding a new arena may not have worked out financially in the present. However, in a few years, I would not be shocked to see us pursue the opportunity again. Our President is an engineer after all 04-cheers

RE: Marquette On-Campus Arena
yeah I think the Nova/St John's model works out really well.... Really helps with dates as well for flexibility in the schedule.

RE: Marquette On-Campus Arena
One thing that I think is important to point out is that part of the reason Nova and St John's do what they do is that St Johns is all the way out in Queens and Villanova is outside Philadelphia entirely, so they're like a 45 minute-hour drive to their alternate arenas with traffic. Marquette is a reasonable walk from Fiserv (to the extent that being outside in Wisconsin in February at night can be considered "reasonable") and is just like a mile down the road from downtown Milwaukee. It's a lot harder to justify the construction of a full-on on-campus arena basically next door to Fiserv and Panther Arena (which admittedly doesn't factor in for different reasons) under those circumstances. My guess is an "on-campus arena" will actually be a project that blows the McGuire center out to somewhere between 5,000-6,000 seats and has some training facility/locker room improvements rolled into it than a whole new from-scratch 10k seat arena. Of course, Marquette can always do whatever they want, being a private university and all.
