RE: Telling Season Stats
These stats say one thing.... LACK OF COACHING AND ACCOUNTABILITY . There is way to much talent to allow this to continue. Get a broom and start cleaning up some position and coordinators positions. A continuation of the same is insanity.

Unacceptable. Some of the issues could be seen last season. Thanks to Akron for taking out Ohio last year, otherwise probably no MACC last year either.

Telling Season Stats
A lot of this is attributed to an offense that could not sustain drives.

Neither of the two QBs that played this year are the answer in my view

No question the offense was inconsistent this year and QB situation needs to change next year. But make no mistake the biggest problem with the program is the Defense. We don’t nothing well on that side of the ball.

Rocket QB's led the MAC in TD passes. Beside the Defensive problems, fixing the OL is critical.

Really? Did not realize that. Now the question completion % and QB ratings. How many pass attempts. And by the way the Buffalo QB does not impress me either.

RE: Telling Season Stats
Since the record setting season of 2011. I've been keeping track of points scored/allowed in comparison to how many points opponents allowed/scored in their other games. I think this is one of the best ways to evaluate offenses and defenses. Here's what this season looked like.

Offensively this was the best performing team since 2011. Not only did the Rockets average 40.4 points per game (2nd in school history), they scored on average almost 13 points per game more than opponents typically allowed. In only 2 games did the offense underperform compared to that metric. Both of those were losses - Buffalo (8 points less than UB typically allowed) and NIU (also 8 points less.) So, in those 2 games, the offense was a contributing factor to the loss.

On the defensive side, 2018 was the worst year I have data for. UT gave up on average 30.5 points per game, which was more than 3 points more than opponents typically scored. They underperformed in 7 out of 13 games, and in 6 of those, they allowed the opponent to score 10 points or more above their season averages. The worst performance was against Miami, who scored 49 while the rest of the year only averaged 27. The Rockets were 3-4 in the 7 games where the defense underperformed.

Only 1 game did they underperform both ways - NIU.

So, although the offense contributed to 2 crucial losses (UB & NIU) it certainly was the defense that was the major issue this season.
