Bowl Attendance
So far the Boca Bowl has the 3rd highest attendance of any G5 matchup... Inluding the Gasparilla played in Tampa with USF in it.

RE: Bowl Attendance
I got the impression that there was a decent number of UAB fans there.

Any guestimate?

Bham Bowl had 25,000 there. Only saw visiting side but I guess the crowd was split amongst both sides.

For pure football watch-a-bility the Birmingham Bowl was actually the best game.

Crowd looked just as small on press box side. Had a CUSA team been in it I would probably go.

Same here. Or if UAB was in the AAC I would go watch a conference mate play.

Add in the ESPN factor of having a ton of games just to have something to put on their channel.

RE: Bowl Attendance
The number of bowls and ESPN's support for them is a free market decision based on the profit motive common to American business. The cities involved, the TV networks, the corporate sponsors and the participating schools all have their vision of how the games benefit them. How many bowls are too many? The market will decide. I'm happy with the ones in which UAB gets to participate.

We need to care about what we do to be attractive to future bowls and the AAC.

Total attendance may not matter but you can bet people notice who travels well and who doesn’t. We didn’t hurt ourselves at all in that regard

If by "traveling well" one means only game attendance, that is just one measure. The local bowl people may also be checking motels, dining places and such to see how many came in just for the game and left after it or stayed to play. There is the old joke about the guy who came into town with the Ten Commandments and a $20 bill and broke neither one of them. Bowls are supported by locals to bring in cash flow for more than game tickets and stadium concessions.

RE: Bowl Attendance
That would be a reason why UAB to the Birmingham Bowl would not make sense. Nobody traveling or spending extra money in the city with that.
