Clemson throttles ND 30-3. Not surprising at all.. ND wasnt #3 worthy at all, IMO.

Alabama up 14-0 on OU midway thru 1Q

21-0 now at the end of 1Q. OU has 24 total yards.

RE: Bowl Season thread
ND's offense didn't measure up, and the defense eventually collapsed under the load. Not a complete surprise. As for #3, everyone else had warts, too, on similar schedule strength and results. Georgia probably had the best case of those left out, but putting them against Alabama again immediately after the SEC championship didn't feel right, either.

Can we sub Army for Oklahoma at this point? They took OU to overtime and put up 70 points in their bowl game, and Citadel gave Alabama a headache for a half. Gotta be more competitive than what we're seeing in this one.

28 - 0, and why is anyone surprised? Again, UCF, Georgia and Ohio State all deserved the #4 seed over Oklahoma, who's offense was grossly inflated due to their games against the defenseless Big 12, and their defense was just about the worst amongst all P5 programs.

I'd have gone UGA and UCF. tOSU lost to Purdue badly.. that's season ending in my book.

Alabama has left Oklahoma just close enough to threaten in the 2nd half. Really poor execution on final drive.

RE: Bowl Season thread
Can’t see a reason to expand the playoff beyond four teams. The playoff has been going on for five years and 70% of the spots have gone to four schools and only three different schools have won the title. College football has always been a top-heavy / dynastic sport over the last few decades, so expanding the playoff will just result in more lopsided games with even lower ratings (I fully expect this latest Alabama-Clemson matchup to get relatively low ratings, given the lack of nationwide appeal and Alabama/Clemson fatigue fully setting in).

Not very many bowl games featuring teams with less than 5 losses.

Bowls have taken on the air of a pre-season scrimmage with NFL quality players not participating and pretty much anyone with 6 wins (not a great year for pretty much anyone) getting a shot at a bowl played in front of maybe 10,000 fans. Hard to blame some teams for not showing up to play when a great number of these games are an emotional let-down, especially for P5 (or UH) teams that had conference title hopes at the beginning of the season.

ESPN, who now owns several bowls, has turned bowl season into an extended college football Saturday as they still draw better TV than the alternative. More than half of these games are parlor games played in empty stadiums for the benefit of Vegas gambling and marginally higher TV ratings for ESPN. I wonder how many teams will start to pull a Notre Dame and turn down tertiary bowl invites if the quality of play continues to suffer.

RE: Bowl Season thread
I remember an episode of "Coach" where the Minnesota team finally won the conference title and made it to a bowl; it was cause for great celebration as only nationally relevant teams used to make it to any bowl game. The writers would have to re-write this episode today to include a 5-7 team fretting about their APR and whether they would get an invite to the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl and what they would do while in Tampa on vacation.

The only reason teams play in these sub par bowls is to get two weeks of extra practice. Who cares who wins or looses accept the players.

Not even the two semis in the CFP were close. Games like 50+ to 14 +/- are more common than 17-14.

If the good teams are getting routed, no need to blame it on bad teams. Bad team vs. bad team can be a good game. See: Nevada vs. Ark St.

No.

If the NCAA were to allow all FBS teams 2 extra weeks of practice, teams would not turn down bowl bids, because:

1. Bowl incentives in coaches' contracts;

2. Bowl incentives in ADs' contracts;

3. Bragging about bowl appearances helps to convince the idiot supporters to cough up more money.

In case you missed it, in the Peach Bowl Florida crushed the University of Michigan 41-15. Coach Harbaugh is now 0-4 against the Buckeyes and lost their second consecutive bowl game. The good news is that they say that every time the Weasels lose, an angel gets his wings!

I really dont know what you are talking about. NCAA rules allow bowl teams to practice up to 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week between the end of the regular season and a bowl game.

Aggies want to start 2019 ranked as high as they can, so they can go 11-1 in the regular season in 2019 and still make the final 4 grouping.
