RE: Man Army looks good
So, Army annihilated the Cougars! Are we living in the Twilight Zone? Or, are the Black Knights that good and Houston that bad?

Are the rumors of Applewhite being fired after yesterday’s performance gaining traction or is that wishful thinking? I see where the OC has taken the FSU OC position while the DC was fired after the regular season
From one website:
Houston head coach Major Applewhite’s future with the Cougars is in doubt after UH’s record book-worthy, 70-14 loss to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl capped an 8-5 season, sources confirmed to SB Nation.
The game tied the FBS records for points allowed in a bowl game and margin of victory in a bowl.
Upon Applewhite’s hiring, both UH Board of Regents chairman Tilman Fertita and president Renu Khator famously stated, “We’ll fire coaches at 8-4.”
lol...There is definitely something to it. It was pretty definite he was coming back before the Army game. Given the built in injury excuse, a back up freshman QB, and Ed sitting out---all he had to do was just prepare the team and give a valiant effort in the bowl. An ugly loss by 2 or even 3 TD's could be explained away by injuries.
The way the team looked completely unprepared and the embarrassing record setting margin--coupled with the announcers being shocked that even very basic adjustments were not being made (move your safeties down for chripes sakes) appears to have changed the dynamic. Additionally, Briles left yesterday (gunna take a few people with him), so now you have a situation where no matter what you do---your basically replacing the OC, DC, and much of the underlying staff anyway. With that much turmoil going on---its the kind of natural crossroads where you have to decide if just completely wiping the slate clean with a new head coach prospect with a higher ceiling might make more sense than pouring more money into a guy with which the fan base is clearly disenchanted.

The wheels fell off for Applewhite when Ed Oliver made him look like a ***** over the wrong sideline jacket episode.

RE: Man Army looks good
maybe not the correct thread but where was this Duke team the last game of the regular season vs Wake Forest. Granted had Duke won it wouldn't have guaranteed USM a bowl game but still. After Temple took a 20-7 lead 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter Duke has gone on a 49-7 (42 unanswered) run to put this game away. Duke now leads 56-27 with about 7 minutes left in game

Duke 56 Temple 27 No way! Must be a misprint. Temple was 7-1 in the almighty AAC. That puts them on par with Bama et al. The AAC is gonna be the next conference to join the big boys....the Power 6. I mean, isn't that what they say?

UCF claimed the First Responders Bowl Championship.

Duke was like a lion with its prey. They played with it for about a quarter and then just decimated it. Duke went on a 49-7 run and scored 42 straight points. It's a real possibility that The AACk goes 1-6, they have 2 more games Cincy and VA Tech, UCF and LSU.
