The implication is that just by virtue of winning the MAC that NIU must be good. I'm sorry but obviously that is not the case.
Winning the Mac means you are doing better than everyone on your level of competition. You outperformed the 11 other programs with the most similar resources and intangibles you have. That's all that can be reasonably expected. The MAC is the worst or second to worst worst conference in the country. Exactly who's butt are the Huskies suppose to kick?
WMU just got curb stomped by BYU. Toledo lost as well. Maybe the MAC is the worst conference this year.
What about the Sun Belt and CUSA? Why should NIU be uncompetitive with them?
They would be vs average sun belt and CUSA teams. I think the mac was down so much this year that we won it with an average Mac team. Catch one of those CUSA or sunbelt teams who are having a great year and we don’t match up. Carey’s post season issues aside, we just aren’t that great this year. We are ok.
I’ll give Carey this...he knows when to suck and when to be just good enough. He basically stole his two MACCs. Or should I seized the opportunity. 2014 was won because BG lost tmatt Johnson. Losing in 2015 gets to be blamed on our qb injury situation when I don’t believe we beat Matt Johnson anyway. 2016, 2017 had juggernaut teams in WMU and Toledo when we were at our lowest and couldn’t beat them anyway. 2018 we are just getting back on our feet and the mac is so bad we won it with a so so team.
Matt Johnson was injured in the first game of the season. BG played all year without him and still won the Mac East. It's not like he was injured just before the Mac Championship game.
The MAC East wasn't very good though, and neither was their backup QB.

I will take a MAC title and a bowl blowout any season as opposed to say a 5-7, 6-6 season where NIU does not win the MAC , but does win a bowl game.
The odds of NIU going 5-7 or 6-6 and get invited, let alone winning a bowl game, are pretty slim. Is it really too much to ask to win the MAC and then manage just one win in every three or four bowl appearances? Seriously, are you and the fans who place so much value on conference results not the least bit upset over six consecutive bowl game defeats?
The offense we run sucks. The qb we have running it sucks even more. It does just enough to do well in the Mac, but mostly gets us destroyed out of conference vs a good team. Until we get a real offense and a real QB I don't expect too much outside of Mac level wins
I would never say that a college athlete sucks. Childers is limited but he is a fierce competitor that is giving everything he has to give every single game. I do think that Santa was the better QB but that is on the coaching staff.

Childers is a competitor that is for sure. At end of bowl game, he was lowering the shoulder to punish tacklers. I am sure he was frustrated but he never quits.

He also got the crap kicked out of him in that game, especially on the helmet to helmet hits, and never backed down. Like his moxie. Now if he can only learn to throw a consistent long ball...

If that were NIU players hitting their QB half the defense would be suspended for targeting.
