RE: Tigers Coaches
Going to be hard for many coaches to duplicate the winning percentage that Josh compiled running over CUSA. His AAC winning percentage is a little lower.

John Calipari went 21-15 in his first season at Memphis, with three top 100 players, not counting Kelly Wise AND Earl Barron. That’s a 58% win clip. The 2000 calendar year finished at 4-8.

How many of those coaches would have accepted the last minute game vs Texas Tech in Miami?

Could have started him at .000 at the beginning and raised him after each game.

You mean lowered him from 1.000 after the first loss. After game one, he was the top of the list (which really means nothing).

This is a stupid thread. If for some reason a coach was disqualified and an assistant took over he would be number one.

Interesting that Penny never mentions Finch when he gets asked about the top coaches that influenced him over the years as a player. Sure, he respects and honors him but never mentions him as an x's and o's influence like he does Larry Brown and Mike D'Antoni.

Penny will win a National Title within 5 years and head to the NBA as a head coach. Enjoy him here while it lasts.

Likely due to the audience. National pundits don’t know Larry Finch.

May seem comical but I don't think it's far fetched given all the local and national talent he'll bring in. I believe he could've been in the Final Four in year one had the Lawsons been on the team. Where would Bill Self be without Dedric or Vick? I don't think they are a tourney team if you take those Memphis kids off his roster. That's how loaded the talent is in this city and Penny will keep the guys he wants home. He'll be cutting down the nets within 5 years.

Lack of continuity with his staff may hurt Penny more than the lack of influx with talent. With Memphis, I don't worry about guards as much as I do big men who can rebound and score against size.

Uh, that's why he got Wiseman and Dandridge. Lol

Penny mentions Finch most always. I hear him on the radio and read quotes in articles. We all know "x's and o's" were not Finch's strong point. And Penny doesn't try to say they were. But that's really a smaller part of coaching than recruiting, relationships, trust, and motivation. And that's where Penny mentions Finch - starting with his introductory presser with Ms. Finch sitting on the front row.

That's the second time I've heard that in a week. Is there something out there on this? Because I've always thought Madlock and Miller were here for 2-3 years at least. I believe Sam wants to be a HC again, so I could see that. But losing just 1 guy every couple of years is not abnormal.

I get it, I was talking strictly x's and o's though.

Madlock is here until a HC job comes his way.
