Another embarrassing bowl loss.
Carey was out-coached tonight. This team look completely unprepared.
I don't want to hear about how bowl games and OOC games are meaningless as long as we win the MAC. If we want to see this program advance, we can't suck like we did tonight and in previous bowl games.
This was embarrassing tonight. But hey, we won the MAC. Great...we are the tallest midget.

We don't want to advance that is why we extended Carey. 6-2 in the MAC is what we strive for.

We now have a 7 year sample size with Carey and bowl prep

That UAB QB was a freshman. No excuse for Carey to not find a good QB.

Where are we advancing to? NIU is a good Mac team. Probably nothing more. New coach or not. We could get a new coach and maybe be a little better. Or we could even be a little worse. The range is pretty limited. No C-USA, MAC or S-Belt teams are making any real advances.

OK...disregard my previous post.....this was really, really bad after listening to Andy Garcia throw him wiffle balls and stroke him in the postgame.
Rod is sad sack.

Guarantee Garcia would rather ask him the tough question but can’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Rod is a sack. Maybe I’ll print up some shirts?
Time for a beer.

Let's be honest with ourselves while we're at it, Rod squeaks by with a winning record in the MAC because he plays some atrocious teams. This was a pretty down year for the conference as well. UAB wasn't Florida State or Boise, we weren't massive underdogs and yet still got dropped on our heads.

He must have compromising photos of STF or another high ranking official.

RE: Another embarrassing bowl loss.
Going back to 2004, NIU has scored 30 pts 3 times in a bowl, 12 games. All before 2012.Their opponents scored no more than 21 (20+ twice) in those games. They were winners in all 3, 3-3 overall.
Since then they have scored 20 twice in 6 games, both games in which they were blown out. They have scored 14 or less in 5/6.
Meanwhile, their opponents have scored 31+ in 5/6 (21+ in all 6) including 30+ 5 times, 50+ twice.
A good defense can only go so far in today's game. We see it year in, year out. Inability to score vs. any team not FCS or a lesser MAC team. Other than FSU, these bowl losses are not national powerhouses or even teams with overwhelming talent. Very few teams can run for 250+ a game and win. IN an age of passing, NIU ranked at or near the bottom in every passing category, especially for a team that doesn't run 90% of the time. The running game is middle of the pack and that is mostly due to conservative offense as a result of a stymie defense vs. MAC crap and D2.
Something needs to change. They either need to go back to a heavy run 1st are develop a passing game that goes for 160+ more than 3 times a season. I know talent, recruiting has a lot to do with. And on field play, or there lack of. But minus a handful of games over the past few seasons, this offense is painful to watch. The only consolation is a defense the plays well in conference, vs. lesser opponents namely, can many times hang for 2,3 quuarter...maybe more with big boys. But anything positive seems to be a result of the defense with a high % of the good offensive games being in comeback situations.
Nowadays you need an offense that is capable to put up 400 yards, 30+ when called upon. The recipe, for whatever reason, is not there and hasn't been for a few years.

This NIU team was not that good. We looked no different in this game than we have all season. When you have a bottom 10 offense and only score 13 or less points in many of your games you are going to lose in college football. You can't keep relying on your defense while your offense does nothing. That only gets you so far.

Don't tell the Carey nut-huggers that, we won the MACC so Carey has cemented himself as a great football coach.

If Carey and an opposing coach both have a few weeks to prepare for each other, you know who will win that battle.

The best quarterback from DeKalb is playing at Dartmouth. Carey never recruited him and both his parents are NIU graduates. Derek Kyler had an outstanding sophomore year leading Dartmouth to 9-1 record.

RE: Another embarrassing bowl loss.
I feel like tonight's game was a talent disparity pure and simple. We had no one who could cover their big receiver and their D line kicked the **** out of our O line. That pretty much sums up the game. They stuffed our running game and had Childers running for his life back there. It didn't have a lot to do with game prep. We literally didn't have the personnel to stand up to UAB. I should point out that injuries at cornerback left us with Tifonte Hunt playing hurt and a bunch of freshmen but kudos to their receiver for getting open and to their QB for hitting him.
The talent disparity is Carey's fault due to poor recruiting early in his tenure. I believe, or want to believe anyway, that the team is on the upswing talent wise with good recruiting classes in 2017, 2018 and hopefully tomorrow. It was probably a miracle for this team to win conference but I'll take it. They definitely need to upgrade talent on offense and hopefully we'll see improvement there next year.

So the weeknight games have done absolutely zilch in terms of recruiting. As for the more recent recruiting classes being better, I'll believe that when I see it.
