The program is headed in a really bad direction?

I will say this once, and only once.

OOC win vs BYU
MAC West title
MAC Football championship
Bowl game against a good opponent
First Team All-American

If only ANY OTHER ATHLETIC TEAM at NIU could mirror the football team's success.

I love the history, its the future that scares the hell out of me. I think next season could be 1906 stock market crash type territory. NIU developed a great defense and I have given Carey credit for that a million times, but the days of jumping on that defense's back are over. We saw last night what happens under Carey when the defense does not play lights out. I am just concerned because it has been several years of neglect of the offense, and I don't think its something you can turn right back on when you need it. I dont think its any secret why there were extensions of Frazier and Carey this year, STF knows damn well what is about to happen.

The team is headed in a “good Mac team” direction. But for some reason a good portion of this board thinks NIU should be headed toward greatness, but none of them can give a solid reason as to why.
I agree with everything Lord Stanley and RS is saying. I think we want more cause there is more to get, and we deserve it. NIU is cabable of getting it. I think this program is styaing strong, but we are slipping in certain areas, like QB play (but he is young). Next year will be telling, but we lost a lot of close games as well. Sky is not falling, program is strong, but MY GOD if I see one more bowl loss I might take NIU football down a notch for me personally. That was hard to watch last night.
We want more cause we can win more, that's why we play the game I thought.

If NIU wins the MAC next season, that will alleviate MANY concerns about coaching in my book. Next season NIU will only win the MAC if they have a top half of FBS offense, and if that happens then it will at least show something that this coaching staff is capable of change. I dont see it happening though. Can't neglect the offense next year and have a winning season.

Probably being kind. And I took team they lost to in the MAC as better than NIU. Just as I think BYU and Buffalo are better than NIU but didn’t beat them.

Probably at least 5-8 other teams in G5 NIU is worse than.

Next season there may only be 10 teams worse than NIU in the entire country. We are headed to dark times for sure.

Would you like to throw down a friendly wager on what you are suggesting? $100? $200?

I am suggesting these teams are better than NIU. There is no way to prove that somewhat would we wager on??????

I don't know how you can put Toledo on that list.

Yep, sorry Toledo was a mistake.

Did you pay any attention to the offensive playmakers they just signed today? I’m pretty confident this team will have continued success going forward. Outside of Sutton Smith basically the whole defense is coming back.

Ha no, I’m trying to make a wager with MD. He is confident this team will be nearly the worst in the country next year. I’m asking him to put his money where his mouth is. Throw out outrageous claims like that how about you back it up? How about it MD? $300 that only 10 teams are worse than NIU next year. I’ll gladly take the over and make the easiest $300 of my life.

Yeah that would be an easy win. Even if NIU is bad it is a guarantee to be better than 5-6 of the pathetic bottom feeders in the MAC alone.

He won’t do it because his hate towards Carey is so strong that he knows damn well this team will be pretty good, but can’t admit it and needs to push his agenda.

Yes this sums up bowls about right. NIU has now burned up all its reputation gained from 2000 to 2012 , I fear starting next season we will.see a Huskies closer to the 1990s than the 2000s. And there is not a damn thing we do about it with Carey here 3 more years

Sounds like what the Carey haters said all season ... CMU will blow us out, Ohio scored 50 points and will blow us out, Toledo will blow us out, Buffalo will blow us out, blah, blah, blah. but the man wins in the MAC, gets OOC wins, and just won a MAC Championship. Yes we have been bad in bowl games.

Keep rooting for him to fail, and keep being wrong with your projections.

Sorry but non-hard core niu fans dont care that we won the mac championship. If we want to grow the fan base we need to win games that have eyeballs. That is p5 ooc games and bowl games.

I don’t think you grow the fan base much at all winning bowls like the Boca. You may lose a few you already had by getting blown out, but there just is not enough swagger in a Boca bowl win to make someone a new fan. Probably have to be a NY6 bowl. Or maybe a bowl win over a well known P5 team.

The best way to grow some new fans might be a marquee player. Someone who’s jersey is cool to wear. Someone you can market. Some people become fans of a player more so than of a team.

You mean like wins against Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Nebraska, and BYU? Carey has his flaws and losing bowl games is for sure one of them, but theres no question he’s turned a corner we with his team. If anyone follows the team on social media it’s pretty evident to see he has created a family atmosphere. All those rumors of players hate playing for him are BS. I want NIU to take off into the next Boise State or UCF just like most and I don’t think they are far off. Some great playmakers were just recruited and the future is bright.

I agree he has some success with ooc, but why cant that translate into bowl wins? Or at least competitive bowl games? We played a better Iowa/Utah team much more competitively than UAB.

Keep rooting for him to fail, and keep being wrong with your projections.

And this from the guy who says bowl games are meaningless.

Sorry but non-hard core niu fans dont care that we won the mac championship. If we want to grow the fan base we need to win games that have eyeballs. That is p5 ooc games and bowl games.

I agree he has somesuccess with ooc, but why cant that translate into bowl wins? Or at least competitive bowl games? We played a better Iowa/Utah team much more competitively than UAB.

Right....I can’t figure that one out. It’s weird because like you said they could have easily beat a string Utah team, but couldn’t even compete with UAB. Some of it is on coaching and maybe the players are gased from a grueling schedule? No clue

RE: Another embarrassing bowl loss.
They had two weeks off and had a huge win. There was momentum to ride. Our whole approach is wrong. The bowl game is a reward? BS! A bowl game is another opportunity to showcase yourself to the nation. Take advantage of it!!!!!

We need to bring in Frank Solich as a bowl consultant when he retires. Dude just knows how to get it done...

I was really surprised by Sutton Smith’s poor showing last night. Very uncharacteristic. He would have the most to gain out of anyone with a strong showing on a national televised bowl game.

Sutton was amazing. He hit their QB at least 4 times (pressures) and had 5 tackles (2TFL). UAB got rid of the ball quickly to neutralize Sutton and Corcoran and executed flawlessly. They did a great job preparing to win. Our coaches didn’t roll out anything specific for UAB. It was all the same usual things we do...
