If we could get a home and home we do it, think UCLA.

But where for the above reasons I would not play less than home and home with a lot of schools, there are a handful I would, and given the opportunity, we should.

Mississippi wants to start acting like they are Notre Dame, let them try. Our Mississippi and Tennessee trolls will just have to love with the fact they do not bring what an Oklahoma would. And if we could, would love to play OK home and home. But would gladly travel to Norman twice to get the, here once. We are not Oklahoma guys. Period. Nor is UCF Florida. Nor was Florida State Oklahoma back in the day. They are now. They played.

Your statements don't make any sense.

Just how far "back in the day" are you wanting to go? Your whole point of UCF, FL, FSU and OK is just stupid. The biggest thing separating Memphis and FSU was a dumb AD that thought basketball was the only sport that mattered. We were in the same conference with FSU, VA Tech and others back in the day... the realized the importance of football, we didn't. None of those schools played 2 for 1s to establish their brand.

You cut your nose off to spite your face thinking that a single home game against Oklahoma makes up for giving up two road games. We've played FSU, Bama, Miami, Va Tech and many other "Power" teams and never cracked 45,000 against ANY of them. ut and ole miss are the only consistent draws.

Perhaps you could avoid calling me stupid because we disagree.

In this case, I was attempting to be more nuanced. Not arguing to tuck tail and run around begging schools to play us unevenly. Nor arguing not to punch to get more even or Memphis advantage matchups.

Simply evaluating today’s landscape and acknowledging there are benefits to certain games with the highest profile teams that outweigh the downsides. My point is even with our modest success the last five seasons we still have swaths off empty seats and some lack of support.

While maybe we can become an Ohio State just because of good old want to, I doubt we will in my lifetime, but while good, would be happy to play the overall top programs, even on the road. If anyone reads that as capitulating even while declaring hell no to doing that with a utk, that is on them.

Man the hostility.

Just keep in mind, no one is arguing to offer two for ones. But in certain curcumstances that option can work. And I would take it with Oklahoma tomorrow. And UCF especially should take it with FL. Win one or two of those games and they can parlay it into something bigger.

UCF’s decision impacts every conference member. They are the top program in our league and play in a hotbed for talent... why cheapen your program to play a 2/1 against a local team who will rub it in your face? If Memphis made this decision in order to get UT back on the schedule, I’d be livid. Quite frankly, I can’t understand why we’re playing them in hoop up s w/o a football game in return.

UCF is damned if they do and damned if they don’t in this situation. If they take it they are putting their tail between their legs and admitting they are less of a program than Florida. If they don’t take it then they are scared of better competition.

I didn't call you stupid, I said your points weren't making sense. You compared lower rated P5 teams, but then said there were a few that you would... then went on some tangent about OK and FSU that made no sense and didn't apply.
FSU never took or would take a 2 for 1.

Now, if you were implying the desire to play bigger name teams, I could understand. If instead of saying 2 for 1s, you had said be willing to play a buy game on the road, then I would understand that point.

Convoluting your point by making examples that don't apply... yeah, I still by your point doesn't make sense.

And you were the one that started the hostility. When you make the declarative "Period." then you say your statement is the only truth and everyone else is wrong. That just wasn't true. I don't see how UCF was wrong, although I agree it was a no win... but I also don't think we would be wrong to turn down a (in my opinion) horrible offer of a 2 for 1.
The ONLY school I would say we should jump at that offer would be Bama, because they have won NCs on the schedule that they have mastered. A "neutral site" (although almost always closer to home that the opponent) against another P5, a decent G5 team and an average G5 at home, a bye week before LSU and a buy week before Auburn. Breaking that mold would almost be worth the horrible deal it would be fore our program.

RE: UCF turns down 2 for 1 with Florida
Didn't want to start a new thread. This is funny. So Woody Wommack tweeted UCF signed a QB from Hawaii, Dillon Gabriel, today. Final 3 was UCF, USC and Georgia.

Of course, Georgia and USC fans immediately starting saying their schools didn't really want Gabriel. So Wommack responded:

All of this is talk. The only way you convince folks is to WIN GAMES! And to win games you have to play them. FSU used to be one of us but Bowden played OSU, NE & whoever would play FSU - on the road & guess where FSU is now. They played the games........

2 for 1 deals are probably the future for schools like Memphis and UCF if they want series with upper echelon P5 schools. Boise just signed a 2:1 with Oregon.

Southern Miss did the same thing and won some of the games. It didn't work out for them to put it mildly.

Winning games isn't going to convince anyone. There will always be another excuse to not include a team like UCF.

Winning games is the ONLY way you convince anyone - it's the way we crown conference & national champs - and it's the only way you get respect. Sure it will be resisted by the P5 but winning consistently takes away excuses like nothing else. And USM? They have no market, no money and are stuck in FB purgatory while the AAC schools are on the cusp, gaining credibility - as they play & win against P5 - see FSU, TCU, Utah, UWV, VT, etc.

Why? Have you not seen other AAC team’s non conference schedules? I see plenty of P5 home and home series.

Quite frankly, we’re the only top program going cream puff.

I didn't make my point very well. I'm saying NOTHING (including winning) is going to convince the playoff power brokers that a non-P5 school should be included. There will always be an excuse to not include us under the current system.

Boise may have set a precedent.

Maybe Norvell doesn't either? Word was that Fuente was not happy with the UCLA series.
