THERE NEVER WAS AN OFFER!!!!!!!

Emails obtained by the Orlando Sentinal through the freedom of information act showed that it was UCF who approached UF for home and home games and it was UF who stated they do not do home and home with non P5 schools.

yeah there WAS an offer

Whether there was an offer or not is not the issue. UCF stood on principle, so they say - and it will hurt UCF, Memphis & the AAC. Even if there wasn't an offer, the UCF AD commented on it, as if there was an offer. And the A5 media - ESPN, etc will bring this up every time an AAC school is in the discussion for the CFP..."they dont deserve it because their schedule is weak & they had opportunity but turned it down". True or not, that is the narrative we will hear over & over with every ranking discussion.

Couldn't be further from the truth. If you think not admitting that you are only a step above FIU, then you might have a point. If we have ANY claim at being a P6, or even the best G5 then it would be asinine to accept a 2-1.

The empty heads at ESPN said essentially the same thing as you and used Boise State as their standard. BSU never took a 2-1 when they were established and played higher ranked P5 teams at neutral sites.
ESPN COULD easily schedule UCF vs a SEC team in a kickoff game next season.... they just won't. They are scared because it could damage their golden cow.

UCF should take the 2 for1 only under one condition, that they take it $EC style. After they get the home game, cancel the last game of the series.

Any one can claim anything in a tweet.

The newspaper obtained copies of emails between the two schools in which UF said they do NOT play home and home with non P5 schools.

NOT the PR release put out by UF but the actual emails between the two schools.

“UF isn’t in the market for home-and-home or a neutral site games against non-Autonomy 5 opponents,” Stricklin wrote.

It's more than a tweet. It's a quote from the head coach of Florida. Everyone knows that Florida never offered a home-home. They offered a 2-1 (as stated by the head coach in this quote). So, you call his bluff and take the 2-1. Then you beat that ***

Er, it is wrong for UCF to not have taken the deal.

Period.

It would be wrong for us.

We may think we are above the FIUs of the world, and we are. But we are not the Floridas of the world, regardless of what we think. 30k fans at our games prove this. Want to become the Miami or Florida State or even to a degree the Louisville of the world, play some road games just because, and win them. We have already started playing a ton of games on non Saturdays for the exposure. We already get home and homes and should keep that as a standard with the Moos and Mississippis of the world, and even Tennessee.

But if we can play Ohio State and what it takes it two there one in Memphis, we do it.

If we are willing to play a 2/1 with Florida, then why would Tennessee or Ole Misd not insist on the same arrangement?

Start playing 2/1’s and thats all you’ll be offered.

Exactly. No way should or will UCF agree. Again, it was a Florida stunt. UCF is doing fine with the OOC scheduling.

And we aren't playing a ton of non-Saturday games for exposure. We are doing that because our low-paying TV contract dictates that. Non Saturday games hurt our average attendance. But if we stay with ESPN, it's going to be more of the same.

Why would you take it? You're not getting in the CFP either way. Not sure how any of you can continue to argue otherwise in the face of existing facts and data.

Apologists 2 years ago said, "let the G5 go undefeated and let everyone else lose a game, then they're in". Not true.

When that happened it was, "let them come off an undefeated season with everyone back, go into the preseason highly ranked, go undefeated while everyone else loses, then they get in". Not true.

If they play 3 P5 programs it would still be, "it's only 3 games - still not enough".

We have a different leverage with Mississippi and Tennessee. They have some incentive to play Memphis in Memphis. Ohio State does not.

Mississippi, Moo and Arkansas, are NOT Florida.

Indiana is not Michigan.
Boston College is not Clemson.

If we could get a home and home we do it, think UCLA.

But where for the above reasons I would not play less than home and home with a lot of schools, there are a handful I would, and given the opportunity, we should.

Mississippi wants to start acting like they are Notre Dame, let them try. Our Mississippi and Tennessee trolls will just have to love with the fact they do not bring what an Oklahoma would. And if we could, would love to play OK home and home. But would gladly travel to Norman twice to get the, here once. We are not Oklahoma guys. Period. Nor is UCF Florida. Nor was Florida State Oklahoma back in the day. They are now. They played.

We have no more leverage with Mississippi and Tennessee than UCF has over Florida. We play Ole Miss one more time next year, and then there are no more games in the foreseeable future and there is nothing on the books with UT. We have an upcoming home and home with Mississippi State; and after that series is over, its Sun Belt City. Our upcoming pitiful schedule is not the result of an inability to get games, however, but the result of wanting to load up on wins against a bunch of cupcakes.

Houston has upcoming home and home series with Oklahoma, Tx Tech, Washington State, Vanderbilt, Boise State, Kansas, BYU, Colorado and Utah.

Cincinnati has home and homes with UCLA, Ohio State, Nebraska, Indiana, Pitt, Boise State

East Carolina has home and homes with NC State, Virginia Tech, Boise State, South Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia

UCONN will have h/h series with Purdue, NC State, Indiana, Illinois and Boston College.

We, on the other hand, have Southern, South Alabama, Georgia State, Louisiana Monroe, Troy, Mississippi State... and then two single games @ Purdue and Ole Miss. Pitiful.

UCF and Memphis should never agree to play a 2/1 with anyone because once they do, they cut the legs out of conference members who have the desire to schedule home and homes with P5 programs.

I will say almost knocking off a ranked UCLA team at home got Fuente's train rolling here in 2014. People notice when you can hang with P5 teams.

RE: UCF turns down 2 for 1 with Florida
We have a LOT more history and experience and leverage with Mississippi and Tenessee than UCF does with Florida. It is incomparable really.

Florida is a big state. Tennessee and Mississippi do not have nearly the football talent that Florida does.

The University of Memphis is so much more important to Memphis than UCF is to Orlando. Not close.

Plus, I am not arguing that any school cannot back out of playing anyone, but very recent success for UCF notwithstanding, we go way back with lots of wins over MS, and have a longer history with Tennessee, who needs to recruit Memphis much more than Florida or FSU need to recruit Orlando. Memphis is also the dominant basketball program in the regions, again, recent history notwithstanding. UCF brings none of those ancillary benefits.

And, we play in the 60,000 seat Liberty Bowl, not a 40,000 seat poorly constructed erector set.

A better comparison to Memphis would be Louisville, who had leverage over Kentucky. More than we do. But we have enough to command home and home with regional schools. JCF is not there yet, yet they can still fight for it. But with an opportunity to get FL at ho,e, they should have been more than willing to go to Gainesville twice.

If we can bet our attendance to 50k a game, beat Purdue and Moo and maintain top20teams for a decade, we can expand our demands. UCF just not there yet. Build that thing. Play anyone anywhere.

Your statements don't make any sense.

Just how far "back in the day" are you wanting to go? Your whole point of UCF, FL, FSU and OK is just stupid. The biggest thing separating Memphis and FSU was a dumb AD that thought basketball was the only sport that mattered. We were in the same conference with FSU, VA Tech and others back in the day... the realized the importance of football, we didn't. None of those schools played 2 for 1s to establish their brand.

You cut your nose off to spite your face thinking that a single home game against Oklahoma makes up for giving up two road games. We've played FSU, Bama, Miami, Va Tech and many other "Power" teams and never cracked 45,000 against ANY of them. ut and ole miss are the only consistent draws.

All the example are great.

Just keep in mind, no one is arguing to offer two for ones. But in certain curcumstances that option can work. And I would take it with Oklahoma tomorrow. And UCF especially should take it with FL. Win one or two of those games and they can parlay it into something bigger.
