RE: Week of Dec 17 Basketball
Seems like this kind of happens most years. Some head scratching losses out of conference, then suddenly we all beat each other up. What I can say is there is no dominant favorite in CUSA right now, which makes conference play exciting for most of us. I have high hopes for ODU, but the reality is our OOC schedule wasn't THAT amazing (we did have one big win @Syracuse but they might end up being pretty bad) and our big 7 foot transfers that we were drooling over in preseason haven't made much of an impact yet. One may have hurt his hamstring last night. The good news is this team knows how to win despite not getting much from the frontcourt.
I think BJ Stith is putting together a solid campaign for conference player of the year (he has won player of the week 3 weeks in a row now). We have a pretty deep rotation this year as well, so when one or two guys are having an off night, we've always had someone step up (usually Caver or Stith, our senior backcourt).
ODU should find out immediately where they stand in the first week of conference play with WKU and Marshall on the slate, luckily at home. I am not yet convinced we will be 2-0, despite what fans of each are saying about their team. If we manage to win both then I will be very optimistic about finishing with a first round bye. That's how important I think those two games are.

Not sure how “can’t bring in talent” can be read as making an excuse for a coach.
Talent is there, that is how you have a sixteen point lead in the second half. Poor coaching leads to a loss...easy

Mike Miller went off tonight for North Texas and looks like he'll finish with 35 points.

77-66 is final at the Super Pit. NT finishes OOC 12-1. Pine Bluff is bad enough that we will prob fall in the computers despite the win.
Bring on Rice and CUSA!

Good thing about the NCAA’s NET rating is that a 50 point win = an 11 point win as far as margin of victory goes. Anything 10 or above in MoV only counts as 10 points.

That's a team we should have beat by 50. We got sloppy there for awhile and were just jacking up 3's from everywhere because we knew Pine Bluff couldn't catch back up. Hopefully the team is focused and ready to play Rice after Christmas.

I think the biggest problem with this team is that we play down to the level of our competition. We could have smoked them by 50 if we played against them like we did @ UNM

One interesting thing about that win is that it evened our men's basketball program's all-time record at 551 wins and 551 losses. Hopefully we can get as far above .500 as possible before the season closes.
