It's important to note that some bowls report tickets sold and not tickets scanned. Bowl games like the Cure Bowl and New Orleans Bowl that are in massive venues will usually give tickets - sometimes whole sections - to companies and community entities that help sponsor the game. Those tickets are then counted in attendance whether or not they are actually used.

No question. I am just posting the 'official' numbers. If you have info on how the official number differs from 'fans in the stands' by all means provide it.

I mean, we all know the Cure Bowl didn't have 19,000 people actually in the stadium, but that's the official number.

FWIW, i think the New Orleans bowl would be better off at Yulman Stadium.

Pretty much why CUSA East and SBC East are excited about the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Easy to get to. Stadium will only hold 20k and I bet it will be close to selling out each year. Finally an east coast G5 bowl that isn't in Florida.

Well, there is that, but there's also the notion of a bowl game being in an exciting location away from a school's home region, that's more fun for the fans.

I think they all do. NCAA rules about reporting attendance permit a school, or a bowl game, to include all tickets sold plus almost everyone else who is actually in the building except for players and coaches. Reported attendance in college football is usually far higher than the number of actual fans in the stadium, as reported earlier this year.

I bet that if a bowl sponsor gets tickets as part of their sponsorship, the bowl counts those as sold tickets and includes them in reported attendance even if the tickets are unused.

Or setup more bowls after Christmas. Tough with ESPN controlling a lot of them however, G5 conferences can hold out for better dates.

Do the Bowl games have a uniform way of counting attendance? I know that John Grant the Chairman of The Celebration Bowl was on local radio here in Atlanta and stated that close to 37,000 tickets were sold for the game but attendance just under 32k. I know that tickets were sold by the both schools are the schools got a nice percentage of ticket sales purchased directly from the schools so many alums who could make it bought tickets anyway as a form of helping their school out.

Wet weather in Tampa today and cool (low 60s) will keep crowd down. Actually would have been nice to be in the Trop tonight vs RayJay.

Looks like i am going to miss most of it. I am traveling from new orleans to DC to visit family, and my flight was 12:30 departure arriving at 3 PM, long before the 8pm kickoff. But ... here it is almost 5 pm central time and i am still in new orleans, flight delayed 5+ hours by weather elsewhere. Will be lucky to arrive at a TV before halftime, lol.

When the Cure Bowl was first introduced it was supposed to be played at Spectrum Stadium (UCF), which holds 45k. Not sure why it got moved to Camping World Stadium which holds 65k and is the 3rd Bowl Game each year to be played there. UCF would've been a better venue (size-wise) for the game.

Boca Raton Bowl had it's lowest attendance in the five year history. However only 7K off the all time high.

Yes, the Boca Bowl drew 22,614 in official attendance. I updated the original post.

Seemed like 20,000 UAB fans 2614 NIU fans....

Mobile Bowl... about 15K I figure

Hawaii Bowl with Hawaii in it...maybe 10-13K pretty sad
Edit, I was too harsh and it did fill in late... I'd guesstimate about 20K. Thanks to Mongoose...for setting me straight.

Hawaii Bowl:

Attendance:...30,911
Turnstile........27,837

Don’t know where you got 10-13K.

It’s true the crowd was late getting into their seats but that’s typical. Hawaii fans love their tailgating.

Also keep in mind the venue seats 50,000, so even with a good turnout it’s not going to look crowded.
