Early 2019 Depth Chart
QB - DiNucci, Johnson, Maloney
RB - Percy, Hamilton, ???
WR - Riley, Kyndal Dean, Jake Brown, Josh Sims, Ezrah Archie, Devin Ravenel
TE - Cheatham, Stapleton, Cullen, Carlton (Will he make his way back to the top?)
OL - Gillepsie, Bethea, Patrick, Jackson, Fornadel, Chavious (Probably the Top 6)
DE - Daka, Carter, Terrell
DT - Adeeb, Greene, Paris Black
LB - Holloway, Word, Keshaun Moore, Mateo Jackson
OLB/Nickel - Wayne Davis
CB - Rashad Robinson, Charles Tutt, McCormick, Carroll, Willie Drew, Currence
FS/SS - Amos, Adam Smith, MJ Hampton
K - Ratke
P - O'Kelly
KR - Hamilton
PR - Amos

Question is, what young guys take returner snaps, RB depth, DE Depth. Obviously QB.

What else did I miss?

If I had venture a guess. Wayne Davis will be a safety in 2019.

Hoping Maloney's name moves to the left.

Looks a whole lot like this year's depth chart.

I would agree with 007 that the defense scheme will likely be different than last year's leading Davis to a safety position, which I think will actually make our secondary better.

Also, mark my words, the backfield tandem of Percy and Hamilton next season will be much better than Johnson, Sharp, and Marshall this past season. Out of all the new Houston criticisms popping up on this board, the way he handled the backfield should still be #1.

Marshall should have started every game and gotten twice the carries that the other two got. Plain and simple. Very sad end to his career at JMU after such a promising junior season.

But on a positive note, I believe a less cluttered backfield will help the offense. They'll actually be able to get some momentum going and gain confidence with more carries, not to mention I believe both backs have the speed to go the distance everytime they touch the ball. A dynamic backfield will help whoever wins the starting QB job immensely.

RE: Early 2019 Depth Chart
I agree with the comments about managing the backfield. Too much time was spent trying to manage carries between 3 seniors. Run your besst out there and let the guys actually get in some sort of flow. The way the RBs were managed was a dis-service to all of them.

I just don't see Hamilton contending with Percy for #1 RB reps. I think we need another bull in a china shop like Jordan Anderson to be the #2 RB

Agree 1000%. Seemed like Houston let senior loyalty cloud his judgement when it came to who was or should be #1 RB or who got playing time.

Not sure Hamilton really had a chance last year with the 3 seniors splitting time. He was UCF's #1 RB in 2016, so hard to believe there isn't some talent there.

Possible transfer needs/wants:
-RB (remember Hamilton missed all of 2017 to injury).
-DT (Black could move back out to de end).

I know some people on here think JMU should take a transfer QB...

I wouldn't be opposed to some speedy, reliable receivers either..

We redshirted a lot of receivers last year, and had a lot of youth playing. I don't know if we should spend more ships on that group. Should have large improvement just with another year in the system.

Cawley, Rascatti, Vad Lee, Schor weren't bad transfers. Two of them won our only national championships. You think we will win a NC next year with our present qb corp? Cignetti expects to win a NC next year.
Rascati won the NC in his first year. Schor did in his first year as a starter.
Long shot that a great transfer qb is out there, and most of them don't pan out. But maybe one will contact CC. I think Mickey Mathews referred to Rascati once as Heaven sent.

Just looked him up. 5 star QB/#2? ranked recruit in nation who was the backup as a true Fr at UGA. Will transfer to another P5 powerhouse, even though will have to sit out a year.

So if this happens we can close the QB controversy thread right? Or just change it to backup qb controversy

Wow! Fields would be a huge get. Let’s hope this rumor is true because JMU is one good QB away from going very deep in the playoffs again. We would definitely be in the NC conversation.
