The Schedule Challange for Mid Major Basketball Teams
This is a good article on the challenges of putting together a decent non-conference schedule even for a decent mid-major team.
https://www.heraldonline.com/sports/coll...06070.html
Basically, P5 teams don't play non-conference games on the road except a few against other P5 teams. Mid major teams play a couple of "buy" games on the road at P5 teams for $$, then struggle to find competitive games to fill the rest of the non-conference schedule.

Scheduling is all screwed up because the NCAA is useless. They should have more input into scheduling requirements for a more level playing field but they dont care since big bucks and big attendance brings a lot of money to them from the NCAA tournament.

IMO, D-1 is just too large. It's too large for football and it's too large for basketball. 353 teams???? Here's a system that could use the European flair of promotion and relegation.

There are so many low and mid major teams I would think that they could schedule amongst themselves without being forced to schedule below division 1. Even if you can't get the Power 5 teams to play in your building I would think you could find other mid majors to schedule home and aways with to make your schedule decent without resorting to <D1 or the absolute dregs of D1.
