We need to get to the point where we are considered "high major". I think some of the publications actually do rate us that way, but they separate out the P5/BE as "power conferences". We should be a top choice for any kid not going to a P5, and should be able to steal one away from them every now and then too. If WKU and VCU can do it, so can we.

RE: Transfers
I know some would prefer if JJ only recruited high school players and built his team "the right way," whatever that means. But, to give you an idea of how significant transfers are, there are 27 transfers on the eight remaining teams. It's the way of the world in college hoops right now, and that was before the coming one-time "free" transfer rule is in place.

RE: Transfers
After his team lost the other night, Syracuse's Jim Boeheim told media that for sure they were going to have kids transfer, kids who normally would stay and fight and work for more playing time or whatever. He also said he'd be rebuilding his team for next year with transfers and would begin recruiting them immediately. That's the reality.

High major as in blue blood territory. He's going to high P5. He might be the best center in the country next year.

Guess Charles Bassey is only a High Major. Look if you can play they'll find you. I bet his stock is better for having played in CUSA. The guy played three years on a non-NCAA team. We've been to the NCAAs in that time. Well over 2/3's of the transfers move down to schools to get playing time, find a better situation and leading roles.

WKY is a mid major. But, we all know how $tans gets his players that he cant win with.
Wahab is possibly the best returning center in the country. Hes gonna get to choose where he wants to play.

Another interesting player 2017 C Sterling Manley (6-11, 250, 2.7☆) will be transferring from UNC, he's been battling knee problems and was just able to play at the end of the season. We recruited him pretty well.
This got me thinking about how many ACC schools have players transferred to ODU from: Virginia, NC State, Wake, Pitt, and Clemson, and Maryland when they were in the ACC. Maybe I'm missing one or two, but I don't ever recall getting a transfer from UNC. Didn't realize ODU recruited Manley, he would be a good addition.

Yes, but we have gotten from Clemson and Pitt just in recent memory. It goes both ways.

Of effin course. these rule changes will be the end of good players staying at mid-major schools that are looking to build or rebuild. We are going to have to retool every single year. This is ridiculous.

I am curious if schools could offer guaranteed 4 year scholarships to counter the transfer issues? Rather than renewing or not on an annual basis. In other words, the kid commits to 4 years, not just a one year grant in aid. I know coaches lose a touch of control on who is on their team, but at least they keep the players they have.

To be fair, wouldn't this past year have been Curry's senior season? Im assuming he also graduated. So, we woudln't have had him next year under prior rules.
This also does not open a scholarship.
Curry is a big loss, especially without a scholly to replace him. I have been on pins and needles about Kalu though. Crossing fingers.
Its a 1 time free agency for college hoops. There might end up being an average of 4-5 transfers PER TEAM when its all said and done.
I haven't given this that much thought but I wonder if the NCAA could have said "we will grant any kid an extra year but it has to be at the school they were attending."

Thats never gonna fly, IMO. Kids already feel taken advantage of because they are not paid, which is only going to be gaining in notoriety over the next few months.
