31 to 6 Appy in early 3rd quarter. CUSA not looking good sonfar in bowl games.
App State has a defense that is at least equivalent to ours and has a better Oline. Bocca Ratton Bowl looking like a better destination.

MTSU resorting to multiple cheap shots. 38 to 6. Stockstill cant find his receivers. Superior coverage and pressure from a very young App St team with a SO QB from AL.

Well, our current recruiting class would be good enough for 10th place in the AAC. We'd have to pick things up to do well there.

Our last 3 classes were #8, $9 and *2 (the class where we got to sign 40). We are currently at #4, but also #4 in CUSA-West, behind North Texas, USM and LaTech. We are still waiting on a couple of good ones though.

Winning a conference championship in a crappy conference. Oh the irony of that post.

Take the recruiting rankings with a huge grain of salt as has been said many times. They are about 60% on target. Even within our own team the rankings arent reliable predictors. Marino was rated at the lowest level of a 2 star. Kris Moll was a 2 star. Another of our LBs from the same class as Moll barely reached double digit tackles this year, but was a four star recruit. Brown was a 2 star with one offer, and he ends up a FR All American. Street was a higher ranked 3 star coming over from an SEC program and he only got a fraction of Spencers carries.
The high four and five stars are easy to spot early. The mid amd lower level players coming out of HS are much harder to rank and predict. Thats where CUSA lives, making player impact much harder to predict and much more open to the influence of player motivation, development, specific opportunity and coaching. But i will say that Clark and coaches seem to have a very good eye for less obvious talent. I think some other programs have picked up on that and are paying close attention to who UAB recruits. The jury is still out a bit on our ability to recruit offensive line talent out of the HS ranks.

UAB never has really been considered in the top of the league in football recruiting.
In years past it was because our coaches sucked.
This time it is because Clark has been putting puzzle pieces together instead of just going full steam after the top players.
Results are all that matters.
I believe Spencer Brown wasn't recruited by anyone and had he not gone to UAB's football camp he wouldn't have gotten a D1 scholly.
There are a lot of other great players out there in the state that are overlooked.

UAB was also Jordan Howard's only D1 offer...

& there isn't as much incentive for the recruiting services to rank G5 like players.

That is a great analysis there! I was telling somebody the other day, once you get past the Top-20 classes or so, the rankings were sort of useless. I'm sure there will be a few guys in this class that are vastly underrated too.

It doesn't get a lot of media attention, but even the top national power football programs have to get rid of 40 of every 125 (25 per year over 5 years to play 4 seasons) to get to the 85 allowed "keepers" every season. Transfers, quitters, and "non-renewed scholarships" don't usually get a lot of media attention but are still part of the story.

This new redshirt rule really messes things up further.
