I think the fans want more convincing before committing to the team. Like a ticket to the dance. It's been a long time.

2008, to be exact. Since then, it's been fair, mediocre and flat-out poor, and that takes a toll on enthusiasm. Plus correct me if I'm wrong, but the program's last glory days had a lot of older fans. Without putting too fine a point on it, I wonder if she's having to start from ground zero on building a fanbase involving people that don't have the in-person memories of championship basketball and only know the Monarchs from their .500-or-worse play that's marked their recent past.

It took a while for the fans to fall away, which means it'll take a while for the fans to come back. But an NCAA trip (and especially a win) speeds up the process rather nicely.

I'm planning on attending a game or two for the first time in a while. They may or may not get to the NCAA's this year, but we are heading in the right direction.

Karen Barefoot's UNCW team is 5-4 with 2 DII wins and zero notable wins.

Thank God we got out of that mess and our future looks so much better.

Loved Karen, just never seemed to get it done. I wish her well. Unfortunately the UNC-W team with Karen has an RPI of 211

Only common opponent so far is VCU, they lost to them 47 -58

I don't think she's a bad coach, just not a mid-major D1 coach. She did well at Apprentice and turned Elon around quickly. Low-level D1/high-level D2 might be her comfort zone.

Then UNCW is perfect for her. I think D2/D3 is more like it.
