RE: The refs sucked
46 free throws. We shot 22.
35 fouls called on Memphis. 22 on them.
2 techs on Memphis, 1 on them.

Of course it was a factor.

Different point than whether overall, they were correct. They were bigger, made early shots while our kids missed, jumped out to 10 point lead, and it floated between 18 and 6, really 14 and 6 most of the second half.

Being bigger made our guys look reachy. A few over the backs were missed, could have been closer at the end...suspect we win next year.

Yep. From the start. It’s as if they decided to call any and everything, every time down the floor. Hard to play like that. It’s bs

At the beginning it seemed to be slanted towards UT...But later in the game it was called more evenly.
29-6 free throws in second half.

You are on here complaining about all kinds of little stuff. For the life of me I will never understand the thought process of not having two functioning eyes and being able to see a screw job.

Even more bizarre is the thought process behind the logic of overcoming a screw job by the refs. You should only have to overcome the other team, not 3 other refs. We have some of the weirdest fans. They are perfectly ok with our opponents being the beneficiaries of the screw job.

Just bend over and take it with a smile, I guess, is the best way to describe your post.

29 is a LOT of free throws in a half.

Utk fans will comment don’t foul as much, but a few of those rebounding battle fouls on Memphis indeed hurt.

RE: The refs sucked
I mentioned these in the game thread

2006 UCLA 29-14
2007 Ohio State 29-15
2018 UT 35-22
2013 Louisville 33-20
2009 Georgetown 29-20
2006 Duke 23-15

The biggest screwjobs since 2000 as far as I'm concerned. An almost historic screw job today. I can watch a game that Memphis is not involved with and recognize a shafting, no problem. I hate Pearl and Auburn but I am able to recognize that they got completely screwed by the refs earlier this year. It is strange that we have weird fans that watch a basketball game and see us get called for 35 fouls, many of them touch calls, while our opponent crawls over our back all game, AND manage to get 2 technicals to 1 for UT, when half the UT team leaves the bench.

Just see it for what it was; what's the big deal?

2014 @ UCONN 36-9 FT discrepancy. They won in OT by 5.

I forgot all about that game, which is crazy because I was at the game. That was for sure one of the worst. That one was 23-12.

The second half reminded me of a Louisville game here a few years back.

Vals scoring in the second half. 27 points from the field 25 from the charity stripe.

It was definitely one of the most modern egregious displays of the refs managing the game that I remember that kept UCONN within single digits of Memphis to keep them in the game. They never should have even been within a single-point deficit to Memphis that game without the refs managing the game.

the problem with next year...Dandridge and Wiseman..and whoeever else coming in...will all be learning on the fly as freshmen
Suspect 2020 may be our year...rather than 2019.
By then..we should have an experienced core of players on the floor.

Depends on what you mean by our year. Next season we should be able to reach the tournament and possibly make a run. Not sure how much better we will be the season after, depending on who stays and who we recruit.

Schofield and Alexander will be gone. Alexander's production can be replaced, but they will have to figure out how to make up for the loss of Schofield. The hope is that Walker develops this year and Pons continues his progression. I would wager that Williams will return for a final year, but I guess you never know in those regards.

Tennessee will add a 5* to the mix as well, but like the new cast of Memphis kids next year, it will be learning on the fly.

Should be a fun game next year.

You continue to get hilariouser by the second. 29-6 free throws in the 2nd half. You must be trolling on purpose. Nobody could possibly believe the stuff you post.

What?

My point is that no one should ever be criticized for blaming officiating, particularly when it was as blatantly poor as it was yesterday.

IIRC, that ref job was led by Duke Edsall. He is the brother of UConn football coach Randy Edsall. While Randy was not the coach at the time, he had been and was a legend there. So much so that they brought him back after he floundered at Maryland.

I guess there was nothing to that connection. But it seemed odd. Better to not have the guy calling UConn games, to be a bit more transparent.
