RE: New Mexico Bowl: Utah State vs North Texas
Utah State is very strong, and they could’ve done this (52-13) to a lot of teams today. But at the same time, I think this kind of result highlights the fact that C-USA simply does not compete at a high level. UNT is one of their top 2-3-4 teams, and they just got completely squashed. 52 points and 556 yards for the Aggies.

Ha ha ha, thats a funny joke.
Mich St is #35, Pitt is #38 in Massey Composite ratings.USU took an L, UCF administered a whupping.
Boise is #23 and Cincinnati #28. Again, L for USU, big win for UCF.
Other than those two losses, NT made a second winning record team USU beat. Hawaii is #86, lower than five of UCF's wins and NT is #66, lower than four of UCFs wins (counting Memphis only once)

People slamming UCFs schedule but doing it for a team with a worse schedule by any measure is FUNNY

Would’ve loved Utah St getting another P5 crack. Sparty needed a final minute TD to prevail in August.

While partly true, USU also could have done that to a lot of the MWC.

I was impressed with US. North Texas beat SMU and Arkansas this year, they were one of the better G5 teams and US just mowed them over.

SMU was 5-7, 4-4 in the AAC, and they got there with an overtime, by inches two-point conversion over 3-10 (2-6) Navy but that impresses you?
Arkansas was 2-10, with their only FBS win against 3-9 Tulsa. But that impresses you?
Otherwise, UNT's best win is 6-5 Southern Miss or 6-6 Liberty.
UNT is ranked 66 in the Massey Composite or below the median of all of college football.

You're easily impressed...

Including Army and BYU, there are 20 G4 and AAC teams ranked ahead of North Texas in the Massey Composite. That's middle of the pack G4, not "one of the better"

You realized how dumb that Massey 66 post was so tried to backtrack here, but not well enough.

UNT is behind 20 other G5 teams but ahead of about 44 of them. That makes them 'one of the better' G5 teams, as i said, or close enough that only a churlish oaf would spill two posts of ink arguing it.

You think #21 of 65, or 68th percentile is "one of the better" ??
You have low standards, man...

It’s a lot of basketball schools who are still trying to figure out competitive football, and now irrelevant in both sports it seems.

That conference is like the Bermuda Triangle...you can come out of it super competitive, but for some reason, you’re lost while you’re there.

I figured with the coaching turmoil USU would be a mess. The QB situation didn't help UNT's situation but USU was moving the ball pretty effectively.

I expected USU to win but not to dominate at that level.

It is a league trying to find itself. I haven't run the numbers again but the former Sun Belt that moved there averaged more wins the first two years in CUSA than their last two in Sun Belt.

MTSU has the G5 nightmare. A coach too good to fire and not good enough to move up. UNT squandered a string a four straight league titles in Sun Belt by basically putting $0 added dollars into football. FAU and FIU are in a market that is hard for major pro teams to draw unless they are serious playoff contenders. The new has worn off at UTSA and students rejected a fee increase for athletics. UTEP is in one of its funks. Rice is in a funk. USM collapsed after Fedora when the administration went and made the anti-Fedora hire, then tried to fix that with Monken who then ditched them to be an OC in the NFL. WKU has gone from high flying and playing some damn entertaining ball to full on funk. Marshall is a half-step off what they've been. ODU has been all over the place and Charlotte is figuring things out. UAB did the improbable this year but still managed to lose to a Sun Belt team that didn't get bowl eligible. La.Tech isn't at peak but they are a current bright spot.

Right now UAB, UNT, LaTech are the only programs you can confidently say are on track and not add an * to the statement.

Yes, obviously, #21 of 65, or 68th percentile, is indeed "one of the better". They were better than more than two teams for every one they were worse than.

You were just looking to pick at something, and it blew up in your face. Too bad. 07-coffee3

The MWC was very good this year - it's neck and neck between them and the AAC for "best G5 conference", and the top 3 were very good.

Basically, the MWC had 3 of the best 5 teams in the G5 this year. Possibly numbers 2, 3, and 4 behind #1 UCF and #5 Cincy.
