My dog has cancer...need suggestions...
Hello all:

My dog was diagnosed with osteosarcoma 3 weeks ago. She's on anti-inflammatory drugs and pain-killers and is holding her own right now. We've switched her diet to primarily protein in an effort to stem the growth.

Does anyone have any experience with slowing this down, maybe even stopping it? I don't want to put her through chemo or radiation, so I've been looking at some new immunotherapy..Although I don't know who in Cincinnati would offer such treatment.

She's 14 and the closest thing we have to a child. Any advice is welcome.

My heart goes out to you, and especially your dog. Unfortunately, mine died of degenerative mylopothy (nervous system shutdown), so I cannot offer you anything.

Thoughts and prayers.

So sorry for you. Don't know anything to help. We have lost 2 dogs to cancer. Just try and keep her comfortable.

She's gone. We put her down yesterday when her back legs went out. Very sad.

I thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers to you and the family. I had a Shepard that I had to do the same when his legs went also.

New arrival last week. A one-year old male black Ibizan hound from Northside SPCA. One wrinkle...he may have diabetes. We've been walking him every 2 hours since we got him.

Lots of energy...I've lost 5 pounds.

He's a good boy.

Sorry just talked to my wife and she said a better option is a weight maintenance food.

The best way to fill the hole in your heart due to losing a beloved furrchild is to open your heart to another after the initial hurt of the loss has subsided.

The dog you lost is in heaven smiling because she knows ow lucky your new baby is to have a home with you. And I have no doubt you will see your lost beloved pet again as one of my friends once told me "of course our pets are waiting for us in heaven...heaven wouldn't be heavenly without them with us."

BTW the new furrbaby is beautiful.

Many prayers and congratulations. My older dog was given to the end of April 2018 due to cancer and a tumor on his liver. He has been doing "Qualitative Care" of pain meds and steroids... he's still with us. Everyday when I leave for work I tell him he's a good boy and keep fighting the good fight.

Both my dogs are rescues, good on you for going to the SPCA.

Our last 2 have been SPCA. It's tough to go there and not want to take all those dogs home.

I noticed a lot of pit bull pit bull/mixes when we were over there. I imagine that's partly due to their rep and partly due to their use in dog fighting. It's a real shame, because they can actually be very good dogs if properly trained.

People forget that Petey from "Our Gang" was a Pit Bull...incidentally, that's the name we gave our new furbaby.

Prayers for your pup..as long as there's no pain and he can get around, he's OK.

BTW...it's official, he has diabetes insipidus (lack of ADH production). Extremely rare, but the condition isn't severe enough to be a health hazard...also not severe enough to warrant meds.

This is good news...

Now for the bad news...we can't get him to use the doggy door with the flap down. Anyone have a fix for this?
