RE: Dino Babers Extended
Just looked online and he's 57. He could've certainly moved somewhere else, but my guess is that he likes Cuse and didn't want to either face gigantic expectations of a big school or rebuild from scratch some place where success is anything but guaranteed.

That being said, he's a good coach. Fantastic offensive mind, the D is the thing that always seemed to really kill his teams. With that on track now Cuse should be a solid program for the future, good get for the Orange.

Thanks...think you are right. USC was a concern to us...but they kept Helton.

He can get us consistent 9 win seasons and he'll be a legend at Syracuse. If he gets more he'll be a HoF'er.

Just asking, because I hadn’t heard anything before. Do you believe that Babers was really a target for USC? I like Babers, but he just doesn’t fit the profile of who they would target.

If they fired Helton....he would've made the short list. Of course no guarantee he would be selected or he wanted to start all over at 57/58.

IIRC Babers is from Hawaii and has spent much of his career on the west coast, so it makes sense from that point of view.

True. He grew up in Dan Diego. That is why SU fans were worried about USC firing their coach. But he seems to be very happy at Syracuse.

Babers played and had his first coaching position at UH.

It still kills me that UH didn't reach out to Babers when he was having success at Eastern Illinois. We could have afforded him then. Fans on the UH message board were pushing for it. Instead the (since fired) AD let Norm Chow continue driving Hawaii football into near-oblivion.

An interview of Dino Babers on the local radio about 5 mins long

http://www.espnsyracuse.com/podcasts/din...ion-12-14/

Highlights: Knew he had to get it done before early signing. Negative recruiting out there saying he won't be there if you commit to Cuse. Most excited town has been over Cuse Football in 20 years. No reason why Cuse can't make the Playoff.

BTW, Daniel Baldwin (of the Famous Baldwin Brothers) has a daily radio show at the radio station. Of course due to the Syracuse connection of the Baldwins...we also get Justin Bieber sporting Cuse gear with Hailey Baldwin

You can listen to today's show here http://www.espnsyracuse.com/podcasts/the...w-12-14-2/

How was attendance this year? Were people actually going to football games again?

Attendance is up...several thousand per game. I expect it will be up 3-5k more next year. They are going to sell out their Bowl Allotment for the Camping World Bowl.
