Tucker Joins Seahawks As Senior Administrator

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Tiffany D. Tucker, a former North Carolina Tar Heels basketball standout and collegiate women's basketball coach and currently a seasoned athletic administrator, will join the UNCW staff as Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator in January of 2019.

Tucker has served as Deputy Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator at South Carolina State for the last 15 months. The Virginia native previously gained athletic administration experience at Elizabeth City State, Hampton and S.C. State and coached basketball at Allegheny (Pa.) College, Radford, Francis Marion and Claflin.

"We're extremely pleased to welcome Tiffany to the Seahawk family," said Jimmy Bass, UNCW's eighth-year athletic director. "She has worked in all phases of collegiate athletics and brings a tremendous depth of experience to this critical position. We're looking forward to having her come on board after the first of the year."

Tucker is looking forward to moving to the North Carolina coast and contributing to UNCW's successful program.

"UNCW is an extraordinary place, with tremendous leadership, vision, and great people," said Tucker. "I'd like to extend my genuine gratitude to Jimmy Bass and Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli for this opportunity.

"I'm excited to serve under Jimmy's leadership and have the opportunity to work with the tremendous staff and coaches in supporting the vision to empower and foster even greater institutional prominence while cultivating and preparing our greatest gifts, our student-athletes.

"I can't wait to get there and join such a wonderful community. I offer my sincere commitment to serve the entire constituency of the athletics department, the university, and the Wilmington area. I look forward to helping to lead the UNCW athletics program across the spectrum of excellence and up to the pinnacle of eminence."

AS AN ADMINISTRATOR

In her role at S.C. State, Tucker coordinates all aspects of the department and manages day-to-day operations for the Bulldogs. She directly oversees women's basketball, softball, women's soccer, men's and women's track & field, volleyball and men's & women's cross country.

Before moving to the Palmetto State, Tucker worked as Director for Sponsorships and Governance at Hampton. She was responsible for athletics sponsorships, fulfillment of corporate partners, entertaining and cultivating sponsors in various settings, and developing new business opportunities in the Hampton Roads market. In addition to sponsorships, Tucker coordinated Hampton's licensing and branding, along with its online store, shoppiratesgear.com.

Tucker's first stop in athletic administration came at Elizabeth City State, where she served in several capacities, including senior administrator, associate head women's basketball coach, head volleyball coach and head tennis coach. Tucker recruited 2014-15 CIAA Rookie of the Year selection Breona Jones and coached All-CIAA First Teamer Jadda Jefferies.

AS A COACH

Tucker earlier spent a combined seven years as a women's basketball coach at Claflin (2010-13), Francis Marion (2009-10), Radford (2008-09) and Allegheny (2006-08).

In her first head coaching post at Claflin, Tucker recruited All- Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection First-Team pick Tylesha Brown and coached Second-Team choice Natalie Davis from Columbia, S.C.

As an assistant coach, Tucker helped guide NCAA Division II Francis Marion to a 27-5 overall record and 17-3 conference mark in 2009-10. The Patriots finished second in the East Division of the Peach Belt Conference and reached the championship game of the PBC Tournament. FMU earned a berth to the national tournament and advanced to the second round.

Tucker accepted a position as assistant coach at Radford in 2008-09 and coached three All-Big South honorees, one Big South All Tournament selection, one All-Rookie honoree and the BSC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

Tucker began her coaching career at Division III Allegheny in 2006-07 as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Marketing Director for the department's summer camps. She coached All-North Coast Athletic Conference First-Team honoree Stephanie Wolf, Second-Team member Emilie Simone and Honorable Mention selection Brittany Bell.

AS A PLAYER

Tucker lettered four seasons at North Carolina for Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell. Tucker was a member of Atlantic Coast Conference championship teams in 2004 and 2005 and played on squads that advanced to the NCAA Tournament all four years. The 2004 club reached the Sweet Sixteen and the 2005 Tar Heels soared to the Elite Eight.

During her outstanding playing career, Tucker was awarded the UNC Coaches Award in 2002 and 2004. She was also the inaugural recipient of the program's Osterneck Award for Inspiration after bouncing back from a serious knee injury during her freshman season.

PROFESSIONAL

Tucker is a 2018 graduate of the NCAA-sponsored Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute. She currently serves on the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) Membership Committee and the Women Leaders in College Sports Education and Professional Development Committee.

Tucker was selected by the United States Olympic Committee to participate in the Ethnic Minority Women in Coaching Leadership Program in Colorado Springs in 2015. She is also a 2008 graduate of the National Association for Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators Institute for Administrative Advancement (NACWAA/HERS) and the Leadership Enhancement Institute.

In addition, Tucker is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Women Leaders in College Sports.

PERSONAL

A graduate of Matoaca High School in Chesterfield, Va., Tucker was inducted as a MHS legend in September of 2017. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy at North Carolina in 2006 and completed a Master's of Science Degree in Sport Administration from Hampton in 2017.

Also, way to highlight the Claflin connection in the thread title. You board newcomers take notes... that’s a veteran move right there.

I wasn’t going to post a thread about it at all. Then I saw Claflin in the article and got excited. lol.

With such a long wait between games, we needed this dose of Claflin. Badly.

The thing about Claflin is that if you take two of them and wash them down with a stiff drink, not only will you not get excited about Claflin, you will be pretty mellow about most things....

I understand that Canada just legalized Recreational Claflin.

As you might know, Colorado took that step a few years back. There Claflin is available -over the counter - in traditional form, as well as in newer "Gummy Claflin" and "Smokable Fatties" varieties.

With this new addition to our staff, it looks like the Seahawk concession stands are about to get a lot more popular.....
