HUD is back!
Break out your shmedium shirts.......Mark Hudspeth is the new head coach at Austin Peay replacing Will Healy who was hired by Charlotte. HUD was most recently the associate head coach and tight ends coach at Mississippi State.
Man, Austin Peay knows what they want and moves fast.

Good for him, congratulations to Coach Hud. I hope he has a lot of success in his new gig.

RE: HUD is back!
Just called Doug Gillin and asked him to pay Austin Peay $400k to schedule them. Just want one more presser with HUD complaining about travel.

A beautiful bus ride beyond the blue ridge would make his brain blowup.

I admit, I had to look up who the 3rd new coach was that year. Had forgotten about UNT making a change.

And I still think all three helped themselves with good hires that year. Coaches are like milk, they have expiration dates.

I agree 100%! Hud was what we needed at the time and really generated a lot of support for the program. He also was instrumental in getting the facility improvements were made. In retrospect, maybe he should have moved on to Tulane when it was offered, but hindsight is 20/20. When the previous coach started, (Coach Bustle) the program was in shambles and he helped to resurrect it. He was instrumental in getting the indoor practice facility built. He took the program as far as he could then Hud too over and moved it to another level by creating excitement and helping to get the Athletic Performance Center constructed. He was good for Louisiana for a while but eventually he was caught up in internal issues.

I know the guy had some success early but I never considered him to be a strong coach. The Florida game was a good example of his coaching skills. The AP job may be a perfect fit for him.

The weird thing about the Florida game was UL was in it because of Hud but also lost it because of Hud. Through his time here, he left offensive and defensive play calls to his coordinators and spent a lot of time on special teams and motivating players. If you recall UL blocked a punt and then Hud allowed his OC to get too conservative and then had a punt blocked, which resulted in the loss. Frustrating stuff.

No one and I mean no one was going to be successful under DR Ray Authement. I lived in Lafayette from 1995-2006 and attended some ULL functions with him being the head of those. The guy was so anti-sports it wasn't funny.

Authement holds the record for longest serving president of a public university. 34 years (1974-2008).
Helps explain why our football program has floundered more often than not.
