I see this photo, and I think the stadium looks great. Then I look at the rendering of the surrounding area, and I think, where the heck are they putting it ?

It looks like it was placed in Thanos' back yard.

Would have to see the Blazers play in it, To be polite, I would be thankfull for it, but to say it looks good in that pic, I would say it does not look good at all whatsoever, It looks like nothing that was promised, No sir it does not look good, But would be thankful to have it.

Does knot look like a State of the Art Modern day Stadium, It looks like a house built in the 70's.

the steel "erector set" construction is to keep the cost down. The details of the design haven't been finalized, so a lot can and will change.

The money would be better spent on stadium amenities rather than beautiful brick columns or something. Most modern stadiums aren't architectural wonders.

Lol. Guessing we'll only have half our previous attendance? No, it isn't Thanos' back yard. Part of the funding is going towards buying every piece of property between uptown and carraway, leveling all the homes and making it pasture land. That's how Woodfin is going to make the neighborhoods better. Make several of them disappear. Which, oddly enough and coming full circle, sounds like what Thanos would do. Hmmmm... Woodfin=Thanos

Never seen a house from the 70s that looked like that.

The rest of Birmingham is being razed so there won’t be concerns about the neighborhood.

I've seen some people already talking/complaining about parking and tailgating.

I was goofing off in google maps trying to figure out exactly what all is around that area. 2 pieces of green space in the area. The first one is Linn Park, but you'll have to walk a few blocks to the game. The other one is Oak Hill Cemetery, definitely not tailgating there.

I could see fans parking and tailgating on UAB's campus and taking the UAB buses over to the BJCC. UAB spent a ton of money building the bus routes for the games and we could definitely take a page out of the Tuscaloosa playbook and convert the bus system for football purposes on Saturdays. Railroad park could even be an option if the bus system works properly.

Norwood Park will be the closest green space. Not too far from the stadium.

People complained about how bad parking would be when they closed the parking under the interstate, too, but no one seems to notice now. There's lots of parking at Carraway with parking decks on the southern and, I think, some type on the northern side. Shuttle buses or walking from that short distance shouldn't be much of a problem. Of course, with the continuing talk of a Carraway renovation...

Carraway would be the ideal place to park. Would be terrific if there was some type tram to & from there but of course that is wishing thinking & may be pricey.

Corporate Realty is starting a redevelopment of Carraway.

Quote:The first phase involves clearing the site and getting rid of the blight, as well as resetting the parking decks, Wolfe said. He believes the first phase can be complete by 2021, before the World Games come to Birmingham.

"In addition to making the environment walkable, developers also want to bring in transit options, so people can park at the Carraway site but still have access to the BJCC and other attractions."

All great Ideas, Sure their, are a lot of little pockets around the finest state of the art district stadium of its size in Alabama to tailgate and move on em to the Game, Call it the Nasa Stadium looks good to me it, grows on you. Plenty of Lighting and a Backdrop to Covet. Its a Massive Project should be a great Economic Impact for the State, City and region. Looking forward to the World Games to open it up.

Maybe the City can open up the former rail system and bus system, run them from 5 points to all the attractions nearby. Looks Good.

Does the city transit system still have the "Dart" vehicles in use? They would seem to be useful as tram-type transport over short distance turn-around routes like from the Carraway campus site (or other short distance tailgating sites) to the stadium.

Another option is to redevelop that land they are buying to create a middle class buffer, maybe similar to the development around railroad park

Looks like the easiest route is to add a 2nd upper deck.

I don't think there's any question that this is where it's headed. I looked into getting a cheap house in the area to use for gamedays or investment or something, but I'm far from the only one. All of the houses in the area are either snatched up or get snatched as soon as they're listed.
