Hardaway runs a drill every day in practice teaching them how to take charges. Whatever works. One was called against So Dakota State about every 2 minutes, lol.

From the Daily Memphian today:

The latter, Harris said, was the result of a daily drill the Tigers run to help players learn to take charges.

I think it’s good coaching, since the charging rule has changed so much over the years. Selling it as a defender (aka flopping) is important.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I just got a chuckle out of Fever saying in the game thread that Memphis players were flopping like fish, and sure enough, Penny is teaching them to do that every day.

Penny and staff teaches to position for the push off and then sell it upon enactment. It is terrific coaching.

Didn't say it wasn't good coaching. Only point was Fever mentioned it (it was quite obvious in that particular game), and then a few days later, it's mentioned in the local paper, that Penny actually teaches the technique in every practice.

Not sure I ever heard a coach say he teaches flopping, which is exactly what it is, lol.

Quote:In basketball, a flop is an intentional fall by a player after little or no physical contact by an opposing player in order to draw a personal foul call by an official against the opponent. The move is sometimes called acting, as in "acting as if he was fouled".

Source

The offensive foul is real. When a foul actually occurs, it does not meet the definition of a flop.

Much like a flop, however, the foul's effect is exaggerated so the ref can see it.

Why do you have to be so mean to others?

I would have banned you for a month for this crap.

Penny is just telling it like it is.

I'll never forget Cincinnati and Nick the Quick flopping vs. Memphis and I bet Penny never will either.

Penny learned this from HuggyBear and RollinNolan at Arkysuck.

It's an NBA-laden staff. I figured the kids were being coached to draw charges by Penny and Miller.

I can't watch a single NBA game without them flopping like fish.

Penny and Miller are just coaching flopping they've experienced at the next level. The way charges are drawn in the NBA.

Not sure why this was considered Smack Talk by the Mods.
