For those who watched. Did we shake it up on defense at all? Press, traps, zone....anything?

I'm really starting to dislike McGrath. Can't stand his postgame comments.
"Well, when a player makes a shot, it's their fault. But, when they make a mistake, it's the coaches fault". STFU.

First half we did switch it up. Added a press that caused a 10 sec violation for Furman.
2nd half....there was no defensive effort and seemed like a lot of fast breaks for Furman before we could even set our defense.

Well whats he supposed to say when they don't give any effort on rebounding a miss, closing out their man, dribbling into traffic and having the ball stripped. He is obviously frustrated because I'm sure he is hearing excuses in the huddle, instead of owning the mistake and moving on mentally.
You can't coach effort.

Sure you can. If he thinks that is the problem, it's HIS problem to fix. He's the coach.

Pull an old Dean Smith and start all the scrubs! It doesn't matter who or what the excuse is. It is getting old. We have way too much individual talent to be settling for this type of play. Our defense is horrible. It starts with our guards, once they get beat then we have our bugs getting in foul trouble early and that changes everything.

If guys don't want to play hard, you can't MAKE them play with effort. I agree as a coach it is his job to change their mindset and find what makes them tick.
He is frustrated and when asked about the game that is how he felt his team played. I like candid honestly instead of some BS politician answer.

Would you feel the same if the players called him out? Ya' know, instead of giving a BS politician answer?

Sure, they can call out the coaching staff on not being prepared. Would I suggest it...no. He didn’t say specific names, he talked about the entire team. It is up to the players to show effort and compete. In a different situation,if a professor called out the ENTIRE class on pure effort in studying for a test, writing a paper, giving group presentations, would you then publicly call out the professor for not preparing you properly?
If the players don’t believe in McGrath and the staff in putting them in a position to succeed then they have the option to leave the program. Jeff Gary wanted to redshirt but was not given that option, so he transferred.
Don’t get me wrong I am not saying McGrath should not be blamed for the regression the team has taken. That is why I said McGrath and the team need to do some soul searching before Wedneday. I anticipate a much better effort.

I don't expect him to stand up there and take the blame, he hasn't ever before. But enough of the calling out of players non-stop. Praise in public criticize in private. That saying exists for a reason. He needs to learn it.

I wouldn't say he has never taken the blame. He has said that the team wasn't prepared and thats on him before. He didn't call out any specific player(s). If he mentioned specific player(s) or insinuated specific players then I would have a big issue with that. He was talking generally about the entire team effort though. Plenty of coaches have made similar comments in post games after being simply out played.

Man. This sucked. Watched some of first and most of second. Half courts sets were atrocious. Defense looked typical but they crushed us on some offensive boards.

Good thing that I was coaching and not watching this! Ty has a sports hernia and didn't play. He's going to be out for a while which sucks because he has really helped this team. Well, we all knew that he makes a difference and now we see. The box shows that Jean didn't have his normal night too. It sounds like Fornes played some PG and they even went Point Forward with Sims a little. At least this will give some guys some minutes which will help their games expand some.
PG is a learned position that takes time. You have a lot of responsibilities like bringing it up, setting the offense, guarding the opposing PG and being ready for floor balance back. Hard to take right now will the injury bug at PG, but it may help some guys get better/more efficient at valuing the ball for the longer haul.
It sounds like Matt did some good things so at least he got a chance to play some.
Team has to toughen up and pull together. That's something that gets overlooked but makes a big difference.

Way to put a nice spin on a train wreck of game!
This was the worse game that I have WATCHED a McGrath team play.

Your last three losses by at least 41 points have been by exactly 43.
