Vernon calling someone a loser? Funny comment from a jock sniffer.

Anyway, Verno says when he was a younger broadcaster, he followed and participated in the Memphis blogs. And he cared about what was said about him, took it personally. Also he was new to the area, and trying to make it in sports radio, so thought it was important to read the blogs.

So Verno goes to the blog meeting, and is very unimpressed with the people who were there. Won't go into all of what he tells in the story, which when he tells it is funny, but critical of blog member's appearance, diction, dress, living in mom's basement . . . Verno uses the word 'losers' several times.

So Verno says he quit participating in and perusing blogs. Point being why should he care about what was posted when he is so unimpressed with the people who were posting it.

He's pretty spot on.

Have you met many folks from this board? yikes.

Yup. I was pretty sure that was what they were referencing

is this the College Gameday tailgate vs. Louisville?

I'm getting old either that or the UT game in 08. But yes, one of the pregame tailgates.I saw him there.

So if it wasn't us, I wonder which internet community it was.

I mean, how many Tigers forums are there out there?

Me thinks he meant before 2015.

No sh*t.

Still the first time I have heard this story referenced.

More to the point, has there ever been a meetup here, where like Vernon says, users wore nametags of their online aliases?

RE: Did Chris Vernon show up at a MTO party?
I remember very well when Binghampton Ned organized a tailgate for the ESPN Game Day crew in February. It was in the last years of RC's tenure and he was really, really coasting (even by his standards). In fact, it was downright embarrassing how oblivious RC was to the fact that ESPN Game Day was (a) coming and (b) televising in front of the FEF. It was literally like he had no idea that college BB fans would be watching what Digger and company were saying pre- and post-Louisville game.

No. He is just repeating the story told by "his buddy" Verno, and using it for a point in the book.

RE: Did Chris Vernon show up at a MTO party?
Didn't one of the local news stations do a story on this place? Now that someone brought up the nametags I feel like I remember seeing them in the clip. A few posters were interviewed too. I wonder if this was the same event or if this was separate and they just met with certain individuals. I can't remember the details but it was many years ago.

Yes, one of them did, and someone posted the link or video here. The couple of members shown were some of the less "in depth" posters. I don't mean "in depth" relates to their intelligence, simply the nature of their postings. They didn't tend to discuss the nuances of the dribble-drive-motion offense, put it that way.

Chris Vernon tells a story of showing up at a Memphis Tigers message board event a few years ago. Some of you who have been active here for a long while, do you have any stories of this event?

Good for Vernon.

Did he he get a story out of his incompetency?

RE: Did Chris Vernon show up at a MTO party?
Over the years, there have been several get-togethers for the folks on this board. There was one in the Pinch District before a game at the Pyramid (maybe as early as 2000 or 2001), one (organized in large part by BinghamptonNed) for College Gameday before a Lousiville game and one at TTT's house for a visit by kpigout. MT.org changed pretty dramatically during the 2008 Final Four run and, especially, during Cal's exit in 2009. Prior to that, MT.org was a smaller group where a lot of people knew each other off the board.
