Crosstown Shootout
The game is 2 days away and not a mention of it on this board. Wow. Not sure what to make of that? The crowd that subscribes to the "Big brother" mantra will say, "we don't care about them, it's just another game on the schedule". The "Mick sucks" crowd will say "we are tired of hyping this game up, only to watch us lose (again)." Me? I care about winning rivalries, especially this one. I am cautiously optimistic for a victory. How about you?

I care about winning rivalries, but I also care about my mental health. It's best to have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than to get hyped up only to be disappointed again.

Just wondering which X player, who is shooting 18% from 3, knocks down 7/10 in the game?

I am sure it will be the same as most years. We probably lose by about 10, and people will point to one guy who gets "hot" against us, but the reality is most good teams beat us because they can shoot. When they get hot we can't keep up because we have never been a good shooting team since I started watching Basketball.
I have only seen us win 3 or 4 times agains Xavier, so I have always considered us the little brother. In my opinion they have a much better program than we do... Though I am sure I will get flamed or called a Xavier fan for my thoughts on the Shootout.

Hankins, the white kid with the cornrows, will ball out.

Game is not at Cintas. I believe Mick is 4-2 in shootouts not played at X, 0-6 on the road. I like UC chances this year but the crowd and players need to bring it all game. Biggest differences to me is that UC has been good at home, while Xavier has been great on in thier own building. Cats need to great on Saturday.

There was a bit of discussion in the NKU game thread where I said this...
For me personally, while another loss to eggs would be a hugely disappointing, what Mick says after will likely be absolutely infuriating.

7/10? Try 17-17.

With the number of guys we are playing in the backcourt if we do not 1. drive the ball to the basket and 2. harass the crap out of their one pg then we deserve to lose. I have faith we will do both as we've been doing it well the past 9 games as it looks to be our 2018/19 style. They've got a number of players who tend to foul often so you have to challenge them. If they zone, stick Cumberland in the middle and get him the ball. Key is don't go the first 6 or 7 minutes and not score. Our Cintas mantra.

I decided last year that I can’t watch this game anymore. I went for a nice hike at the nature center, and though I was infuriated to see the score, I’m pretty sure I saved myself from a stroke. It’s High Time we start beating these a$$holes regularly again. I’m sick of it.

i have often wondered why we don't use a guy that can shoot, dribble, and pass in that spot. its what the good offenses do. we usually use a guy that won't dribble and won't even look to take that shot.

I haven't seen XU play. Looks like they're good offensively but pretty bad defensively. Anyone got a scouting report?
The last Shootout at the Shoe was among the best UC games I've ever attended. I am pumped for Saturday and expect it to be wild.
As for why there isn't much discussion of the game on this board, it's because it's full of negative, depressed UC fans. It doesn't make for very good discussions.

This is spot on. Mick has been fine in shootouts not played at cintas. Even stole one the first year when uc was completely overmatched. Sadly we've mostly been a disaster at cintas.

They have good bigs who score inside and on the offensive glass. They don't shoot it that well from outside. They get the ball around the basket efficiently. They really struggle to defend.

This. I think it's easy to overlook the fact that we've lost 2 times at home during Mick's tenure. Once was in 2008 in the heart of the rebuild, and in 2015 when Larry Davis was filling in for him.
I actually find the insane home field advantage aspect of the rivalry really interesting considering the schools are so close. Just shows what kind of environment the shootout brings to the arena.

From the few times I've watched them, they can't seem to play a full 40 minutes and sort of suck defensively. Blow big leads with regularity.

Lol, I'd love to hear your explanation for that. Most of the anger from UC's side should be directed at the fact that we've allowed their program to be on equal footing since they've been winning the H2H games for quite a while now, stealing a couple at our place despite our inability to be competent at Cintas.
