Big 10 schools earning north of $50M per year each

It doesn't matter how many games Rutgers might win. as long as the network is included in the cable package.

This was the only reason Rutgers was added. They helped bring the NY market for the BTN.

According to Matt Sarz’s analysis, 10 of Rutgers games was on BTN (+1 on Fox).

That’s very little exposure actually.

I think the NY market would have been added even with no team. There are so many transplants there from all over that fans would have been clamoring for it, heck probably more than any Rutgers fans would. Was hands down the worst conference expansion move of all time (Well next to UC not getting into the Big 12).

That one game on Fox must have been their game against Michigan St. a couple weeks ago. That had to be the worst game I saw this season. Couldn't have two more inept offenses that were just begging the other team to score a TD and win the game in the second half.

Nice set of highlights... consider:

1. OUR coach was CTT
2. They fell for Shaq Washington throwing the ball TWICE
3. John Lloyd - sporting an obvious beer gut, rambles for a fake punt first
4. Miliano MADE a FG

and RU STILL loses by five TDs? Yes, they ARE a dumpster fire.

Play of the game for me, almost tied with the hail Mary an off balance Kay through for a touch down, that had no business being caught. I'm not sure if it was actually meant as a fake punt, or they just blew through our special teams blocking and he decided to tuck and run, catching them totally unprepared.

As for Rutgers as a whole, they had a good run of respectability with Schiano from 06-11(with the exception of 1 season.). They'll never hire him again though.

I think he said in a post game comment that he knew they'd block it if he tried to kick it, so he decided to run.

No kidding. We're still missing a real game changer at WR. Chris Moore could do it all. McKay was a true deep threat when he wasn't taking plays off. Shaq was the guy that made all the tough catches. And for some reason I was not remembering Anthony McClung leading the team in receiving yards (939) in 2013. In fact, I didn't realize that he is 5th all time at UC in receiving yards at 2,378.

Mardy was the best receiver we've had at UC when you factor in everything he did with explosive plays, allusiveness and then the special teams factor, BUT that group of receivers was the best we've had. They were so explosive, so balanced, so many different styles and ways to beat you.

McClung was very consistent during his 4 years here. He gets lost in the shuffle with all the talent we had from 2008-2015 because he didn't grab all the TDs, wasn't a game changing kick returner, or have monster 200+ yard performances. He was

Kahlil Lewis is in a similar boat. After the bowl game is over, he will finish 5th in receptions, 7th in receiving yards and 5th in TDs. Of course, his tenure he will be forever linked with the 2016 and 2017 seasons which probably isn't very fair to him.

Posted this before but going into the National Championship game that year, one of the OSU cornerbacks said our receivers, along with Bama's, were the best they faced all year

RE: Jim Delaney Regrets Adding Rutgers to the B10
Well, we know Rutgers sure as hell doesn't regret the invite.

Quote:Big Ten TV revenue distribution reaches an insane $51 million per school

After receiving $36 million in 2017, Michigan received a $51.1 million payout in 2018 from the conference largely thanks to a huge rights deal with ESPN and Fox and the success of the Big Ten Network. The number will increase to $52.1 million for the 2019 fiscal year.

To show you how far these conferences have come in such a short period of time and how these numbers are increasing at an astronomical rate, consider that Big Ten teams received just $25 million per school in the 2013 fiscal year. The Big Ten has incredibly been able to double their revenue distribution for schools in just five short years. Yes, double. It’s astounding. And it shows that maybe Jim Delany wasn’t all that crazy in making sure he got BTN on cable systems on the east coast to expand the league’s footprint. Even though Rutgers and Maryland haven’t exactly fit in seamlessly with the likes of Michigan and Ohio State on the field, expansion and realignment has certainly paid off for the conference.

To put that number in further perspective, it far surpasses anything that we’ve seen so far in the conference revenue race to this point. The Big Ten is in a league of their own with the SEC, which managed to lead all conferences in distributing $40 million to schools in 2017. The other power five conferences are further behind and while the coming ACC Network should make that conference a little more competitive on the revenue front, it’ll likely still be far behind the Big Ten.

$51 million from the Big Ten is more than just TV money. It's tier 3 rights (which I think the AAC lets us keep). It's NCAA tournament credits. It's bowl revenue. It's the bonus the existing schools get because Rutgers and Maryland still aren't receiving full shares. It's also hockey and lacrosse games on the Big 10 network (which UC wouldn't get and which are actually quite lucrative).

51:2 is not an apples-to-apples comparison. A true comparison would be closer to 47:2.8 - or some other similarilly gigantic gap in funding. The revenue gap is still significant. The $51MM number just looks better in the article though.

I think its impressive what UC has been able to do with the available funding. Nice to dream about what they could do with even another $5MM per year

For the past 5 years, we have been able to supplement the revenue from the conference (media, bowl money, etc.) with the Big East exit fee money. That money is now gone.

The AAC's media deal expires sometime in 2019. The AAC is free to negotiate with ESPN currently, and if a new deal is not struck by February 2019, the conference is free to negotiate with outside bidders. This media rights deal looms big for the schools in the conference.

It's absolutely impressive what UC has been able to do given schools like Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Rutgers, etc. get 16X as much tv revenue as us.

Nippert renovation
Best-ever football recruiting class
10-win football season
Annual bball NCAA tourney participants
New basketball arena
Improvement in non-revenue sports (women's vball and bball)

And we're still making debt payments on the initial Varsity Village construction from the pre-Big East days, right?

16X!!!!

Holy sh!t.
