I suppose it depends on what you qualify as WTF losses. I think we'll drop games from the teams like Wichita State and perhaps Memphis, both likely NIT teams, but that's about it. We're playing steady right now and - despite the loss of three key guys - we're a veteran-led team with good guard play and strong defense. That doesn't necessarily equal WTF losses.

I think everyone is waiting on Saturday's game before they get too excited. But a nice win over X should really get the optimism flowing.

I don't want to think about what another loss to X will bring out.

Reading some of the early pages of this thread - during a solid win against a pretty good team - I shudder to think about that. They need to beat X this year for the sake of the fan base.

For me personally, while another loss to eggs would be a hugely disappointing, what Mick says after will likely be absolutely infuriating.

The atmosphere is going to be dictated by the students. We went up big early and the student section never really felt invigorated. They filed in later in the game, but didn't seem like they were really into it.

NKU brought a TON of fans to the game, so even though attendance was close to a sellout (11,218) it was probably 20% NKU fans.

The environment on Saturday is going to be much better, similar to the OSU game, which the arena was about the loudest I've heard it in the Cronin era.

One thing NKU does better than UC...build a basketball arena. I still can’t figure what they were thinking when they designed it. The entire presentation from pregame, to stats, to scoreboard usage is just bad.

No championship banners, zero student section excitement, very little pep band time, and an overall blah look creates one of the worst college basketball atmospheres. The old arena with 6,000 fans for a buy game created a more fun environment than whatever we have going now. So many useless large screens. Why do I have to squint to see how many fouls a player has?

NKU built an arena that happens to host basketball, not a basketball arena. It seats around 10K, which holds less people, and all the noise goes into the Braxton Brewing Patio. It's nice, but they had a clean slate to work with and basically no restrictions on size. Also, getting to NKU for gameday was a disaster. I left my house in Mt. Washington at 6:20 and made it into the arena with 10 minutes to spare. I had to leave by 5:30 to even sniff tip at NKU.

UC built a great upgrade to a terrible arena. Is it perfect? No. Is it significantly better than what we had? Yes. Is it going to help increase revenue in our athletic department? Absolutely. That translates to bigger budgets and more success. If you don't like it, don't go, someone else will likely take your tickets.

I think the Xavier and UCLA games will give us a good idea of how strong the home court advantage is. So far i would say it’s not as good as the old arena but on par with playing at NKU last year. Hopefully the student bring it.

this team to me has that '97-'98 flavor. one proven "star" and a bunch of untested reserves (presumably talented). that was my favorite bearcat team. kenyon and mel elevated their games for the future. bob brannen had his coming out party. that was a jerod west brick from prolly the elite eight

Loved that team. D'Jaun Baker is one of my all time favorite Bearcats. Hit some huge shots in the two tournament games. That West bank shot was so crazy...so deep, partially blocked, somehow banked in.

The other thing about that team is they were so depleted midseason they convinced Brad Jackson and Brent Petrus from the football team to come play and they gave us some key minutes in midseason wins. I'm thinking specifically of the UMass game in Cleveland.

Amazing that team won the conference and conference tournament title. Not sure any Bearcat team got more out of their roster than that one (2002 is close though).

UC did not build a brand new arena. The Shoe was upgraded. With that said, they did a great job with the available footprint. The focus was on amenities and luxury seating options. The luxury seating is fantastic. Bar/food options are great as well. The Champions Club is better than the Reds/Bungles clubs. These items are modern amenities and revenue streams. Revenue comes from the high dollar folks not your regular joe.

With that said, I agree they could do more to show our tradition/history. Banners would be nice. Filling the concourses with displays, such as the NC/Final 4 trophies. Pictures on the concourse of great moments. I have been told something is coming along these lines. The screens are great. Modern and show plenty of stats.

As for the students, you can not build emotion and excitement within them. They need to bring it every night regardless of the opponent. I remember having to camp out for tickets to see a directional school as well as marquee opponents. We cheered loudly at every game. Just a different generation of student now.

I saw Cintas the other night on tv. Man, The New Shoe makes Cintas look old and outdated.

The team has been mediocre for over a decade. You got to be a better team to get an atmosphere and pack a stadium in Ohio. I went to one basketball game as an undergrad. The only other time I was ever in the Shoe was for Freshman orientation. The team was bad and there was not much excitement around the team when I was an undergrad. It also seems like football coaches try to sell the program, but our basketball coach never does.

I did not grow up in Cincinnati and basketball is not in my blood. My time as a "fan" has seen one sweet 16 appearance and 2 conference championships. Cronin needs to sell the team a bit more to get some of us casual fans to care and create a better atmosphere.

Wasn't that team preseason #1 or was that the previous year?

Well, unfortunately for me, I had never been to a game when UC was at its peak. I was in school at UC from 2006 to 2011 in which UC went to exactly one NCAA tournament. Just giving a frame of reference.
