Wow! Great job Aggies! Wasn't able to watch the game but a 63-60 final score is very impressive. Looks like the Aggies are the team to beat in the WAC as always!

RE: WAC basketball week 5
Missed free-throws derailed NMSU's potential upset of Kansas. Unfortunately, the amount of energy NMSU expends on defense sometimes effects their concentration/focus during free-throw shooting.

I think NMSU proved they have a team that could very easily preform at a top 25 level.

Well, NMSU fell 4 points short of beating #2 Kansas (60-63) Saturday. Let's see how GCU and Seattle U do Sunday.

It was a great half played by NMSU but should Chuha be playing after punching another player?

There was a little skirmish before the game. A Lobo player and and Aggie took a swing at each other, no one got hurt and it was not a factor during the game. UNM coach Paul Weir who is grasping at straws for approval suspended the player who BTW was the one who initiated the whole thing starting with social media. Not even Lobo fans think the Aggie should be suspended. Moronic reporters who need to sell papers also made it a bigger deal than it was. I kinda wish Chuy was suspended. He stunk and missed a key free throw during the game.

That was the most impressive WAC BB performance so far this season.

Chuha threw a punch that did not land. Maniguilty for UNM threw a punch that connected with Aurrecoechea's face (They were both team mates at the same Juco).

Before each game in ABQ and LC Maniguilty would push and elbow his way through Aggie players heading to warmups down the tunnels.

Chuha has been a good student athlete his whole time here. And, Jans appears to have brought good character guys. The same can't be said for some of the players Weir brought into his Lobo program. A lot of his D1 transfers come in with baggage (attitude problems). As for Chuha, I don't blame him for standing up for his teammates. Manigault instigated everything and Weir knows it; Weir spend three years coaching Chuha's (Menzies' recruit) prior to going to UNM.

Good guys can make mistake like throwing a punch. Chuha isn't a bad person just made a bad choice in reaction to UNM players. Its a teachable moment and at least publicly looks as if Jans is sweeping it under the rug b/c he can. Weir in this altercation as slimy as ppl view the guy looks better in the public court of appearance imo.

UNM's Manigault went into NMSU warm up area to cause trouble with Buchanan and Aurrecoachea. It was Manigault (6'9) and Buchanan (6'0) who were in the initial scuffle. It happened 45 minutes before the games; not during the game. Chuha swung but did not connect; just trying to protecting his teammates. Jans can address the issue inhouse without excoriating/suspending Chuha just for public approval. The incident is a non-issue.

You only hope your Lopes have that much fight when it counts. Nobody is going to intimidate this Aggie bunch. They protect their own if challenged. They are not thugs just a tight knit group of decent young men.

Grand Canyon gave Nevada all they could handle. I noticed GCU played a lot of zone in this game. The Lopes are big but (I feel) also foot slow in their man-to-man defense. The zone defense really helped GCU in their attempt to pull off an upset. Nevada is suspect from behind the arc and it allowed GCU to clog up the paint. I suspect GCU will play some zone against the Aggies as well.

It is about time that GCU played a bit of zone defense. I think Coach Majerle needs to get rid of his negative feelings about playing a zone defense. Mixing up defenses is beneficial and against some teams (like Nevada) a zone is preferable. Overall, I was pleased with GCU's effort. They did not play a perfect game (14 turnovers is too much!) but they were still there at the end.

It looks like the WAC may be coming of age with NMSU hanging tough with #2 Kansas, GCU doing well against #6 Nevada and Seattle playing Washington tough (41-34 at the half). I also noticed that Seton Hall took down #9 Kentucky and GCU was within a minute of beating Seton Hall in November.

RE: WAC basketball week 5
Seattle U fought back into the game with help from Washington. Lost 62-70. Washington looked tired or disinterested midway through the second half and Seattle chipped away at a 20 point deficit to get within 2 late. Then Washington's defense woke up and closed out the game.

Seattle is good but they only have one legit low post player... Myles Carter. That could be a problem against NMSU, GCU, and UVU; which have multiple big men they can depend on for low post scoring/rebounding.
