RE: Football Coaching Search
I will have to do some more investigating but right now, I feel more confident about who not to go after rather than who to go after.
Either Briles would be a mistake in my opinion. Hugh Freeze would be a mistake too.
Quote:In January 2016, the NCAA charged Ole Miss with numerous recruiting violations. An investigation turned up evidence that Ole Miss employees and boosters arranged numerous "impermissible benefits" for players, such as car loans and cash. At least one recruit was suspected of getting help on his college entrance exam.
The investigation reopened soon after star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil admitted taking money from one of Freeze's assistants.
In February 2017—three months after suffering its first losing season since the year Freeze arrived—Ole Miss withdrew from bowl consideration for the upcoming season. The move came on the same day that the NCAA sent an updated notice of allegations charging the Rebels with eight additional violations. Most seriously, it accused Freeze of not monitoring his assistants, and also accused Ole Miss of not properly controlling the program.
On July 13, 2017, Freeze's predecessor, Houston Nutt, sued Ole Miss for defamation, contending that Freeze and school officials falsely blamed him for the violations. As part of discovery for the lawsuit, Nutt's attorneys filed a Freedom of Information Act request for calls Freeze made on his university-issued cell phone during January 2016. Nutt's attorneys contended that Freeze and others at Ole Miss leaked information to the press as part of an effort to smear their client.
While reviewing those records, Nutt's attorneys discovered a call to a number associated with a female escort service, and alerted Ole Miss officials about it. Freeze claimed it was a misdialed number. School officials investigated, and discovered what they later described as "a concerning pattern" of similar calls dating back to shortly after he arrived in Oxford. On July 20, chancellor Jeff Vitter and athletic director Ross Bjork gave Freeze an ultimatum: resign or be fired for violating the morals clause of his contract. Freeze opted to resign; offensive coordinator Matt Luke was named interim coach.
I've seen a few calls for Rashad Jennings to coach. I also think that would be bad as he has zero coaching experience. I think he'd be great with the players as a running backs coach but not a fast track to the top position. If he got some experience somewhere else and worked his way up, I would like him much more as a long-term coach as Liberty is the only place he'd like to coach.

Curt Cignetti would be a great get. Always liked him when he was on the coaching staff at NC State.

We already have Mike Brown and hopefully to keep him. He did a good job with the running backs this season.

Yeah Mike did an outstanding job this year. If we keep anyone on this staff that’s who I would want to keep. I would be in favor of making him an OC. Rashad could come in as an offensive coach. Maybe line coach?

You are right and I agree. Since he played receiver in the NFL, maybe he'd be open to being the receivers coach but I don't have a problem keeping him at running backs coach since he did well there.

I think Brandon Streeter would be the best hire we can make. I think he's likely to get the OC position at Clemson which would likely set him up for a better head coaching position than LU though so he would be a tough get but doable.

Tony Elliott, co-offensive coordinator, is going to get a job somewhere. That would put Jeff Scott, currently a co-offensive coordinator to move to full OC. Streeter isn’t getting that job at Clemson unless Jeff leaves which won’t be this year.

RE: Football Coaching Search
I'll pop in over here to say this.
I wouldn't touch Hugh Freeze with a 10 foot pole. He was loved by our fan base here, but I've never felt the same vibe with our administration. He's always felt slimy to me. Devout Christian, but he seems to use that more to prop himself up, rather than as a guiding principle in his life. I can't answer for sure if its real, but there was a rumor that when he was going through his NCAA Trouble a couple years back at Ole Miss that the NCAA called our President and asked if we wanted to provide a character reference at his hearing, and we declined.
Maybe he's a changed man, but the concept of having an AD that was fired after the Baylor scandal, and a head coach that was fired after NCAA Sanctions would be too much for me.

It’s too much for 75% of our fan base. I don’t want that at all. I like the Elon guy and from what I’ve seen his pro style offense.

RE: Football Coaching Search
Another nearby coaching vacancy. Scott Satterfield of App St moves to Louisville. That adds a little more coaching availability competition. As Freeze has been mentioned by several sources as coordinator positions and not NC, only LU has rumors with Freeze as HC.
Circumstances seem ideal for Streeter. He'l inherit a good offensive team and can work towards improving the defensive side. He gets to weigh if it's more productive for him to remain an assistant at a Super School or become a HC at an 2nd year Indy. If he had tremendous success, which is a stretch to think is possible with LU's 2019 schedule, LU would be a stepping stone. If he was average or poor, his resume is strong enough to attract another strong assistant position. Either way, a win for LU.
Either way, definitely no to Briles. Here's Jr's and the AD's time to make a smart and wise decision. Time for LU to make big-boy decisions rather than limiting and obligatory ones with the hire.

The more I think about NC State's offensive coordinator, the more I like him. I prefer a head coach with an offensive background (obviously applies to Streeter as well).

+1
I'm liking Drinkwitz and Streeter. Drinkwitz has a great resume with stops at Boise State, Auburn, and NC State.

I'm not liking Briles or Freeze. PR nightmares waiting to happen.
Also, can anyone tell me why they like Curt Cignetti (Elon HC) as a HC candidate? His record at Elon is so-so and he has two loses in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
