2018-19 Bracketology thread
Lunardi apparently was bummed that ODU and Kansas State didn't play in the Paradise Jam because he has them in a 4-13 game in his latest projections (ODU is the 13, for the record). They'd play in Seattle and be in Gonzaga's region, though an ODU-Zags game would be in Anaheim.

As of now, Syracuse (7 seed) is the only ODU opponent in the bracket, though if ODU isn't in it, whoever replaces them obviously would be an ODU opponent.

He has Virginia and Radford meeting in the 1-16 since apparently he wants Virginia to lose as a 1 seed again, which quite frankly I would too. VT is a 3.

No schools outside the Big Six and AAC in the bracket or even the first eight out — not even No. 25 Furman. So if you were concerned about ODU losing their shot at an at-large in the Virgin Islands, well trick question! Nobody was getting in anyway!

(edit to add that obviously if a high-performing mid like Nevada doesn't win its conference it will get an at-large. This projection supposes all the good mids will win their conferences)

I love my Monarchs, but what in the world does Lunardi think we have done so far, or will do, to make the NCAA tourney?

Based on what he's watched giving us best bet at conf champs I guess.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

RE: 2018-19 Bracketology thread
I have no idea what his metric is. I'd say highest RPI but Furman has the best RPI in the SoCon and is tied for the lead with two other teams at 1-0 in-conference, but he has Wofford as their auto bid and Furman's nowhere to be seen.

Very little to read into it but hey, it's someone saying ODU is in the tournament as of now and that's never not nice to hear.

Odu has the highest kenpom ranking in the conference at the moment. For mid majors that's all he bases it on. Soon it will just be who has the best conference record even after like 3 games.

That'd explain Wofford (80) over Furman (122). Seems a bit lazy but then it's not like you're going to watch a lot of Big South or even CUSA basketball at this stage of the season so better to go with a respected formula like KenPom over trying to make some sort of guess with limited eye-test data (though Furman being ranked and not even in the discussion bears out the issues with that approach).

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell Radford will be a 16 seed. They could find themselves as a 12 if they keep it up. Bad losses in the Big South might land them a 14 at worst, but with 2 P5 wins (that will not be at the bottom of their conferences), they will be one of the higher seeded midmajors, assuming they get a bid.

He has to pick someone from CUSA and nobody stands out as the obvious choice. My guess is in these cases, he uses some kind of computer metric to pick conference representatives.

He did call our game against Saint Joseph a few weeks back. So, he actually has seen us play in real life. We have to win the tournament to get in so it doesn’t really matter anyways. Let’s just win the whole damn thing!

BINGO. Lunardi uses Kenpom to determine conference champions and auto bids in his brackets. He has stated that before. There is no way he would pick us as the best team in our conference after watching us play at St. Joe's.

ESPN 12/21 Bracketology update: ODU now a 13 playing 4-seed Nebraska in Salt Lake City with the winner of Mississippi State-New Mexico State awaiting.

Syracuse fell all the way to next four out status. No other ODU opponents mentioned. Also representing Virginia: UVa. (1), Virginia Tech (4) and Radford (15).

The committee has historically had a good sense of humor and like to generate potential storylines. If we make the dance, VT will be our first opponent if the seeding is remotely plausible. Right now looks like 12/5 or 13/4 are very plausible.

We have a 36% chance of making the NCAA's as a 12 seed with a 23-8 record. 8% of an at large bid. Also we have a 41% chance of finishing first in CUSA.

It might be the only way VT will ever play anyone from Virginia that isn't UVa. or a bodybag opponent like VMI.

If they had to play us, they would probably turn down the invitation and head to the NIT.

Yup. The minute we start talking brackets and complaining about our conference mates the team takes a dump.

I’d say right now, ODU is the best team in the league, no question. NT has it going good as well. While Marshall and WKU clearly are struggling. At this point, not sure if the Herd will make the top 4, highly doubtful. We are not good at this point.

Going for the reverse jinx on our board? Not cool. 03-lmfao
