Not throwing shade or anything but it is just shocking that game did not get at least an ESPN2 time slot.

What's up with this cmett003 dude? I don't dispute that MT's attendance for football is horrendous (I haven't checked, but I'd wager a guess MT been close to ODU in basketball attendance since we've joined CUSA), but to include UNT as "bad fan bases"?

Football Attendance:
2018 (#'s from "Week 13 Attendance" thread)
Old Dominion – 19,633
North Texas – 23,355

2017 (#'s from NCAA)
Old Dominion -- 20,118
North Texas -- 22,362

2016 (#'s from NCAA)
Old Dominion – 20,118
North Texas – 19,878

**Yes, I understand ODU's stadium seats ~20K; that has no bearing on UNT's fan base being bad.

I stand by what I said in the other thread.

Which begs the question, though... why feel the need to hijack this one.

Why start it to begin with?

This is the third thread on the subject, you can't contain your nonsense within a single thread?

"My nonsense?"

Wow. You're just a bit hypersensitive.

I happened on the conversation about us on a forum with a wider audience than this one, and thought others here might be intrigued to see what's being said.

So, it's not about "my nonsense," as you would call it, at all. Chillax.

And you felt that it deserved it's own whole new thread, rather than either of the two existing threads on the CG attendance?

Why don't you continue being a part of that "wider audience" you found elsewhere?

I fail to see why a post about the TV coverage of the game must be tossed into the pit of attendance fighting.

They’re not coorelated at all. Very hypersensitive reaction.

Yes, but if you look in the annals of Houston’s history, you will not find that game. It reads: 2011 CUSA Champion: Houston Cougars (VACATED)

I would question some of his categorization between good and bad. UTEP certainly doesn’t have a bad fan base, one of the best actually. They’ve had bad teams recently that reflects fan apathy. We’re all subject to that to varying degrees. Our sellout streak ended this year for instance. I think if UTSA hosted the CCG they would show out pretty well.

To answer your question ODU has trended down the last few years and MT up in basketball. Just looking at the last three years and rounding we went from 7kish to 6.3kish and MT from 5kish to 6.7kish. Which makes sense. If we’d have had success as MT did we would have been well north of 7k.

To the point of the thread I’m all for dropping CBSSorts for ESPN as our main contract. It’s a far superior platform and if we get 1.5 peanuts instead of 2, whatever. Sell the secondary rights to Stadium, BeIn, whoever and we can’t be too much different monetarily.

Yeah those CUSA teams were vastly overrated, Tech led Houston by 20+ and led Southern Miss. CUSA was so weak UH and USM just ran through the conference.

No BCS teams from CUSA during that stretch, WAC was a tougher conference

I don’t think this is the year to dump on 2011 CUSA. The last two years have been the worst seasons in the conferences history.

And using tech losing two games that they led as your evidence. That’s weak.

He might want to look at the CUSA record books for that era, too. Particularly QB for Houston. And those Houston teams for a couple years there were beating P5s. No doubt had they won the CUSA championship game they would have gotten the BCS berth. In fact, USM fans take as much delight from denying Houston as anything else they did that year.

Any one of us would be proud of that schedule that year:
2011/09/03 Houston 38 - UCLA 34
2011/09/10 Houston 48 - North Texas 23
2011/09/17 Houston 35 - Louisiana Tech 34
2011/09/24 Houston 56 - **Georgia State 0
2011/09/29 Houston 49 - UTEP 42
2011/10/08 Houston 56 - East Carolina 3
2011/10/22 Houston 63 - Marshall 28
2011/10/27 Houston 73 - Rice 34
2011/11/05 Houston 56 - Alabama Birmingham 13
2011/11/10 Houston 73 - Tulane 17
2011/11/19 Houston 37 - SMU 7
2011/11/25 Houston 48 - Tulsa 16
2011/12/03 Southern Mississippi 49 - Houston 28 ** C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP **
2012/01/02 Houston 30 - Penn St 14 !! TicketCity Bowl !!

And USM did not run through the conference...they lost to Marshall and UAB. We were one win behind in conference and had the head to head against USM, but Houston had already demolished the Herd and would have likely done so again.

CUSA 3.0 is what we... or at least some of us... said we thought it was going to be.

Thankfully, there's a glimmer of hope in the fact that the conference commish evidently isn't one to sit back and be content, but instead will embrace out-of-the-box ways of thinking... hence the new hoops scheduling and tournament structure. If that kind of mentality can bleed over into football, we might just be able to pull ourselves up by our proverbial bootstraps and distinguish ourselves as a perennial competitor for the big payday (NY6 bowl).

The UAB loss just might have kept USM out of the Sugar Bowl. Before the UAB loss USM was #20 in the BCS standings. They dropped out after the loss and made it back over the next three weeks to #21 in the final poll. If USM was #16 or higher and rated higher than any other G5 champion then they would’ve been in the Sugar Bowl. TCU was the only other G5 champion in the BCS standings and they finished #18.

That UAB loss hurts more than any other UAB loss. The Marshall loss didn’t help but it was earlier in the season.

0 BCS Berths for CUSA 2.0, just like I said. CUSA was really weak through the 2000’s

The WAC was a stronger conference with multiple BCS, the last year Tech played in the WAC there were 3 teams ranked at the same time

7 short years ago in real time, 7 million years ago in football time. 05-sosad

UAB had never beat USM until that game. USM nine straight wins. Those nine losses kept UAB from building a larger fan base. One of the losses was the first game of the year with over 40k in attendance. I would have traded wins. USM use to claim they owned us and they did. How would USM like to have loss nine straight in front of the most attended games. There are always two sides to every story

Stop making stupid threads. The game isn’t changing for the foreseeable future so stop complaining
