Florida 2017: Their FCS game was cancelled, so no insta-win for a 2nd game. In order of games in '17...

This is AFTER going to the SEC Championship game the year before against Alabama, and beating Iowa in a bowl, going 9-4 (only 3 OOC games; no FCS), and beating both Georgia & LSU.
And the year before that going to the SEC Championship game against Alabama and going 10-4 overall.
He had to be pissing someone off to get fired mid-season like that last year. Hopefully he causes chaos in Mt "Pleasant".
I too was confused, but apparently he did not report death threats to the team and staff, which was some code violation. I think they wanted him out and used that as an excuse.
I can't believe there are fellow MAC supporters calling this a bad hire? Is that a joke? The won Coach of the Year in the MWC and SEC....both within the last few years.
Yes, I'm not sure how anyone could call this a bad hire. people for some reason think of his tenure at Florida as a failure, but don't realize that he won back to back SEC Titles his first two years and was let go halfway through 2017 with essentially a .500 record.
Here is his coaching record:
Takes over a CSU team that was 9-27 the previous three years
2012 - 4-8
2013 - 8-6 Wins Bowl
2014 - 10-3 MW COTY
Takes over Florida team that was 11-13 the previous two years
2015 - 10-4 SEC East Champs, SEC COTY,
2016 - 9-4 SEC East Champs, Wins Bowl
2017 - 3-4 Was let go after not reporting death threats made against him
That's a career record of 44-28, multiple 10 win seasons after inheriting bad programs, 2-1 in bowls and SEC and MWC COTY. The biggest knock on him at Florida are those who claimed that he was simply living off Muschamps recruits (who didn't do much for Muschamp). However, if you buy that, then you must also believe that Mullen is living off McElwains guys this year.
There is no sure thing and who knows how he'll do at CMU, but he has the best pedigree of any coach to come into the MAC, and it's recent success not like Bowden who did it a decade and a half prior. I hear the term "retread" being thrown around and I don't think that's very accurate. On paper this is the biggest coaching hire the MAC has seen, whether that translates to results on the field is yet to be determined.
