Actually, what we are saying is “Thank You”.

All you really need to know is that he scrapped the basketball arena upgrades in favor of building a new home for volleyball that costs nearly as much. He also had no plan at all for football, and put together some of the worse marketing campaigns Southern Miss fans have ever seen. Don’t forget about extending mediocre to bad basketball and football coaches, too.

With any luck, your next AD hire will be the home run you are looking for.

Well he's off to a pretty good start here, working with Hart to get our number 1 coaching target, so I'll take it.

Great hire IMO. The guy has won a FCS national championship, been Runner up for another and a runner up D2 championship. Beat multiple FBS schools from a lower level at multiple places. Proven winner.

If he can bring Donnie Kirkpatrick back who is his OC at JMU and was our recruiting coordinator under Skip Holtz and Ruff we will be in business. That's a key hire IMO and the next domino. Just hopping JMU doesn't offer him the head job.

Donnie was here for 11 years.............hope he and OL coach (15 years @ ecu) will be coming home and bring their "winning and positive work attitude" back home with them.

I like how they acted fast: knew who they wanted and grabbed him.
Congrats.

I know ECU is in the shitter right now and not a lot of coaches might want the job and Houston has done some good things at JMU, but it feels rushed. Hope ECU was more thorough in this search than they were with the last AD, HC, and Chancellor searches.

When it leaked hevwas taking the Charlotte job, sources were also telling us kirkpatrick was coming too. Can't imagine it will be any different with ecu.

I would comment, but I thought Skip was a good hire and going to do a good job at ECU. Missed on that one.

I hope this hire works for ECU. The loyal fan following that filled up their stadium in earlier years deserve it.

This is a great hire. And if the contract does indeed raise the assistant coach salary pool and address facilities, ECU just answered the question, "Do you really want to play big time college football?" with a resounding yes.

It looks great on paper but I'm always skeptical about HC's moving from FCS to FBS. Coaching in FBS is a whole different animal than FCS and recruiting is night and day harder.

That's my worry. 3 years in FCS when he took over a fairly successful program doesn't demonstrate any sort of long-term success. I wonder who else was on the list or if Houston was always ECU's #1.

I am extremely excited about the future of ECU football. Hopefully we can get back to playing PIRATE football in Greenville. If ECU can get football rolling again, that will be VERY good for the American.

Hopefully this is ends the effects of the Compher legacy.

Compher. Binegar. Mo. Lebo. I'm including Lebo for Compher's refusal to fire him. I know some would like the cuts to run deeper, but I hope this takes us where we want to go.

Yeah, Lebo wasn't a terrible hire given the state of ECU bball, but he should have been left go after the 14-15 season

Houston has $20,000 bonus per P5 win. Interesting.
