RE: Boca Raton Bowl
I for one was hoping for the new orleans bowl... driving distance, easy flights, much larger fan contingency could've made it, fun place to visit, on a weekend (what a novel idea to have these games on the weekends?!) ... oh well! maybe I'll be able to go next year

Hopefully, we can get to 7 wins next year. We lose a heck of a lot of experience on both sides of the ball. Having TJ III, and the RB's back helps a lot though. We need a STRONG recruiting class, with some OL & DL thatv are ready to play.

Flights: Southwest airlines flies from B'ham to FLL through Orlando which I recommend.
Also there is a shuttle that runs from FLL to Boca raton for $26 each way per person.

Of course uber is always available for about $35 each way. You may want to call hotels and see if they will run a shuttle to the game.
Thank you!
The google calls it an 11-hour drive. You think that's legit (accounting for traffic and all)?
I used to live in Miami, and Boca is about 45 minutes north of Miami. 11 hours is about right. Prepare to pay the tolls on the Florida Turnpike. It's annoying, but it's well worth it. Taking another route will add time to the trip.
I'll be driving down with my crew!!

These games are driven by TV, and they don't care about travelling fans. In fact, they only care about you watching it on TV.

RE: Boca Raton Bowl
I think we all see how CUSA teams are handcuffed from getting bowl bids to those outside of our agreement.
NIU will be a good opponent & I have enjoyed watching their success in recent years.
Shreveport may have been the best travel option for us (outside of any bowl game inside the state of course).
I have driven to Orlando a time or to & can make it in 11 hours with family. About 600 miles.
The extra 170 miles or so though would be real killer.
Since the bowl is before Christmas it will be even more hard to attend.
No reason to complain though. We will survive.

RE: Boca Raton Bowl
My mind is blown right now, although it shouldn't be. You people do realize that the majority of the bowl games are during the week, right? As someone mentioned, these are TV events, they don't care about attendance. Yet we b!tch and complain. Hell, some people seem angry that there are people who get to go. Only on Blazertalk can class warfare erupt over a bowl game. And I love that we are so entitled now. I mean, why didn't we get in the Peach Bowl? Sure, it's one of the playoff bowls, but Atlanta is a short drive, we should be able to play in that one. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, we have the biggest bunch of whiners for a fan base. Like a bunch of petulant children.

I'd certainly rather play in a bowl game than not, but is it really better to play the MAC champ in Boca than to play the Sun Belt champ in New Orleans? After the Bahamas last year, I think playing in NO would have been a nice gesture to the fans.

Get off the Florida Turnpike at Ft Pierce and get on I-95 South. 95 and the Turnpike run parallel going South. It will save some money. 95 to the FAU Exit, it will now take you right to the stadium.

RE: Boca Raton Bowl
All of y'all are missing something in this whole wish we would have gone to this bowl complaint. The game we just won last Saturday is far more important than any of these fill ESPN programming bowls. We just won a freaking conference championship!
Is going to a bowl great? Yes. Would it be great to win a bowl? Yes. Would it be nice if fans could attend? Of course. How about a reward for the players? Ok. But 80 teams will go to these mostly meaningless games. For us its about exposure. More commentators going on and on about our story. Sells the program. Good for recruiting. Enjoy what we just accomplished. Nothing that happens will take that away. Conference Champs!!!

Items in this thread:
15% - Regret over not being able to attend, after having spent significant amounts of time and money following the team around the South east -
20% - Civil discussion about the Bowl game, choices we were given, and acceptance of said choices
15% - Helpful discussion about the Boca Bowl from visitors and knowledgeable fellow Blazers that have frequented the area.
50% - Bitching about the other 15% regretting not being able to go.
Where did you sit on Saturday, Memphis ? I didn't see you.

I ended up getting an opportunity to take a trip overseas this December, so I will be trying to find a place in Paris to watch the game at 2:00 AM. Or, I will just watch highlights when I get back to America.

Lol I'm certainly not engaging in class warfare or whatever ridiculous claim was made. I could easily go, but there's a work conflict with me that will cause me to stay home. I was just passively lamenting that more of these games aren't on the weekend. Yes I understand why they are scheduled the way they are, and yes I can still passively complain about it. I am not trying to insinuate that UAB is trying to screw its fans over.
Congrats to the team on going to a well deserved bowl game in a nice location against a good opponent! Congrats on winning our conference (I agree that's much more important than a mostly meaningless bowl game). I just hope I can go next year and in the future!

I think the Bham Bowl has been shifted around to various dates and days of the week for best attendance possibilities. Heck, they have even had it after New Years Day bowl games.
Wondering how much the game against Auburn factored in to declining the NO Bowl.
I also agree that the biggest victory was this past weekend. Any bowl game invite and/or location and/or opponent is just icing on the cake.

Just remember that 4 years ago on this date, we were not thinking about what bowl our C-USA championship team might attend and if we could work out our schedule to attend it. To borrow from Jerry Reed, we have come a long way to get here in a short time. Maybe we need to get Blaze a black Trans Am.

This statement is simply incorrect. UAB gets such opportunities regularly. It has happened 5 times this year and the bowl game will make 6. Southern Miss has beaten Alabama 6 times. 21-0 in 2000. UAB lost to Southern Miss that year in overtime. Louisiana Tech has beaten Alabama. So has Tulane and Texas A&M. Rice is actually undefeated against Alabama.
We've played Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn, Florida, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Florida State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisville, Memphis, Virginia Tech, Louisiana Monroe, Hawaii, TCU, Ohio State, Nebraska - all have beaten Alabama.
We play Miami in 2020 and they have beaten Alabama.

Yep and we are 1 - 0 against little St Nick.

You just couldn’t do it could you?

Our program's very existence - the greatest defeat suffered by the dead-bear-fellators since Wilson's Raiders paid their foul campus a visit - is the only Crimson scalp we need.
+1
