No hate or ill-will towards the Cyclones, but is anyone else thoroughly confused by their consistent Top 25 rankings? I’m glad for them, just don’t understand.

3 to Notre Dame/Michigan/Ohio St.

Half of ISU’s losses are to Oklahoma/Texas. Blowout win over West Virginia.

Historically they are a bad football team (Overall .455 winning % and only 13 bowl games) but they hired a great coach in Matt Campbell.

It might be a combination of being the perfect definition of an underdog and beating two top 10 teams in the last two seasons (Oklahoma last year and West Virginia this year). For not being historically good in football, they have good fan support and travel well to bowls. I’ve always believed a good metric for real fan support is when a program gets support when it’s down. Iowa State is that program.

Iowa State has an amazing organic fan base. Matt Campbell would be long gone if that program didn’t receive the support it does.

RE: Iowa State
Iowa State now has the third largest stadium in the Big 12.

They have a great fan base that travels well. The Alamo is arguably the best bowl game they have ever been to (first selection after CFP/New Year's Six). They are no longer a doormat.

If they are left behind in the next realignment, it won't be because they didn't try to avoid it.

RE: Iowa State
They are a fundamentally sound team with a good solid defense. After starting out 1-3, they won 7 of their last 8, losing only at Texas. Their 3 losses early were close-at Iowa by 10, home to OU by 10 and at TCU by 3. They finished 3rd in the Big 12 (tied with WVU who they beat soundly).

And 2 home losses to Akron and Duke. #22 no.

Teams behind them would not run the table against Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan St, and Purdue. Most behind them would have trouble garnering a split. That’s why they’re #22.
