Terry Bowden has been fired after seven seasons at Akron, sources told @WatchStadium. Bowden, who coached Auburn to an 11-0 season in 1993, was 35-52 at Akron

He beat the B1G West Champion. Seemed like a great guy.

Probably a move made due to attendance in a new palace (by MAC standards).

It had to do with the fact Akron went 4-8 this year and are 35-52 in his 7-year tenure. He'd be fired at any FBS program with those records.

Surprised after the win over Big 10 West Division Champion Northwestern and a MAC Championship appearance last year.

I think this goes to show while wins over P5 at the G5 level are nice, if you're not winning Conference games it doesn't matter.

Yeah, I agree. If you're not in your conference division title battle most years, you're out.

It was time for a change. Bowden took us as far as he could, which was a massive step up from where we were when he took over, but I think we hit our peak with him.

Muschamp finally killed off another coach. Lol

Miserable game yesterday (yes I stayed the entire game) but I. Can always say I was there for history

I liked Bowden as a hire for the Akron program and he had some success there but he's probably lucky he didn't get the ax sooner with an overall sub-500 record in 7 years. I think it's a good time for Akron to move in a new direction.

Akron was a dumpster fire when he arrived after the tenure of one of the lousiest MAC head coaches this decade. He brought them back to respectability, beating Northwestern and Pitt during his tenure and coming within yards of beating Michigan a while back. They were however dependent on transfers and it wasn't a very sustainable way to operate the program, this year the house faltered. Probably was time for him to go.

What happened to Tommy Bowden anyways? You'd think he could've found a G5 job pretty easily after Clemson given his success at Tulane.

He discovered in the years immediately after getting fired at Clemson that life is a whole lot easier doing the media and public speaker thing.

I never got the impression his heart was in it to be honest.
